Jaguar Prepping New J-Pace SUV To Beat Up On The Cayenne

Jaguar is working at top speed on an all-new £80,000-plus J-Pace SUV for 2021, designed to beat the Porsche Cayenne at its own game.

The model will have a brand-new shape inspired by Jaguar design director Ian Callum and an obvious on-road bias, but it will draw on the Range Rover for much of its running gear.

It will be the brand’s fourth eye-grabbing entry into the gigantic global SUV market in just five years.

The J-Pace does not compete with the Cayenne. It is sized like the Stelvio. This speedy CUV will compete with the Alfa product. Both are niche plays for people who look beyond MB, BMW, Audi, and Lexus for something different.

Ian Callum is the issue at Jaguar. His styling mojo is GONE. His designs are simply NOT creating the stampede of volume that Jaguar needs. The F Pace virtually doubled Jaguar's American volume, but the F Pace's volume is a pitiful fraction of the segment leader's volume.

I get he used it all up on the F-Type.

Let's not forget how he raped the XJ. The Bertone B99 (1) looks like an XJ, (2) has aged extremely well, and (3) could be put into production to save the XJ from ruin. Making the XJ look like a Rover SD1 was asinine.
