the prius is for folks who expect/hope their kids and grandkids and grandkids' grandkids will still see a livable planet they can manage to more than merely exist on.

the rs4 (and other guzzlers) are for yahoos who hopefully will succumb to Darwinism and NOT have any descendants.

Actually global warming is a reality and it is making winters colder and summers hotter.

Ever hear of greenhouse gases? When you burn fossil fuels, it increases the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which magnifies the greenhouse effect.

The greenhouse gases trap heat from being radiated from the ground back up into space (usually at night). The more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the more heat being trapped = warmer climate.

The warmer the climate, the more glacier melting, which means the salinity in the seas decrease, meaning the transfer of heat from the tropics to Northeast US and Western Europe through the ocean conveyor belt is slowed or stopped = colder winters starting earlier and ending later.

This isn't something you can debate...you can debate the short and long-term effects of global warming, because they are relatively unknown, but it certainly is not a "crackpot theory".

there was a natural cycle, but current temps are 3 times higher than the hottest in the past.

You are right that there is a cyclical component to climates throughout history. Some were caused by catastrophic events, others by natural climatic fluctuations. Global warming IS NATURAL, but as Rupert said since record temperatures have been recorded since the year 2000 and those temperatures continue to get hotter, there must be another factor that is speeding the natural process, right?

If current temperature trends continue (which they may or may not), it is estimated that the average temperature could increase by up to 5 degrees by 2100.

I'm not saying we all have to run for the hills or anything and it probably won't even effect our great grandchildren that much, but in 300 years, it could become a big problem.

I'm not saying human processes CAUSE global warming. That is what pop culture tries to portray. I'm saying that human greenhouse gas emissions is speeding up the natural warming process.

There will always be naysayers and other theories, hell people are still disputing that the US landed on the moon! Nothing is proven, I'll give you that...but it does make a lot of sense...and I'm tired of people saying that "Hollywood has made it all up"...They may have exaggerated it a gave it its place in pop culture, but they did not create/make up the theory or the problem!!

Enough of this nonsense, though, let's get back to talking about the phenomenal RS4!!

The reason, at least I believe, he chose the Prius is because it is the complete and total antithesis of the RS4. Right now the Prius is the IT car for conciensous drivers. I'm sure it's a great car. It does however, in a journalistic sense, serve as a great juxtaposition to the RS4, which is all about conspicuous consumption and the more is more philosophy. I.E. the Prius is the ANGEL and the RS4 is the devil. My guess is the reason he chose them is because, for the moment, the represent to completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

Actually the two founders of Google (Sergei Brin and Larry Page) only own two cars each (i think):

In fact, I read this article yesterday and laughed out loud.

The title is completely misleading. It's just an RS4 review-- it has nothing to do with the Prius. And the guy basically bowed down to the car. One of the funniest reviews I've ever heard, of an amazing car. Gives you a new appreciation for the RS4.

Something I'd like the experts to explain to me is:

How can you tell me what the surface temperature of the earth or the ambient temperatures of the oceans were 200 years ago, let alone 100,000 or 10,000,000 years ago, when they can't get the temperatures and weather patterns correct in a 3-day forecast?

There are so many conflicting reports on global warming and man's involvement, some say our contribution over the last 100 years is negligable and other reports say we're the number one contributor.

Reports on the causes of global warming and our impact change almost as often as what causes cancer.
