California Says Reason Could Prevail Over EPA Emissions Standards

California's top air-quality regulator sees hope for a deal with the Trump administration over fuel economy and emissions standards -- so long as Washington doesn't try to steamroll the state.

Federal agencies have yet to translate their disdain for regulations into concrete proposals to roll back Obama-era rules intended to curb tailpipe emissions, meaning there's still a chance for a consensus to emerge, according to Mary Nichols, the chair of the California Air Resources Board.

"Reason could prevail," Nichols said Tuesday at Bloomberg New Energy Finance's Future of Energy Summit in New York. "There's a way to get to success, unless your goal is to roll over California and not allow us to have any standards."

Never thought I would see "California" and "reason" in a headline again, imagine that.

I'm all for people who prefer a clean environment and healthier humans, over those who advocate coal, decimating the EPA, and allowing industry to pollute more in the name of higher profits. But that's just me.

TheSteve is convinced he is a better person than everyone else. Gotta love the narcissistic, self-congratulatory arrogance.

@MDarringer: You misunderstood me, Matty. When I wrote "But that's just me", I obviously do not mean I'm the only person on the planet who thinks that way. I was acknowledging that folks like you, and other Alt.Right-ers, don't resonate with my statements. You can return to washing your "clean coal" and your evening worship at The Church Of Trump :-/

No. I understood your arrogance perfectly as did everyone else here. You may go back to your worship of David Hogg and the communist chick that looks like an ugly boy now.

You really do need to get informed on these matters, buddy! You hold factually wrong opinions, and you reassert them, loud and proud, as though you know what you’re talking about :-/

FACT: I drive an Audi Q5 with a 3.0L 2nd Generation diesel engine. It is not (as you assert) one of the engines implicated at generating 40x lab-legal emissions. You’re totally wrong. In a previous post, you then retorted “then 20x” (another wild-assed guess). Once again, your ignorance on this matter is profound, but you sure are loud about it.

FACT: You once posted (paraphrased) “at least VW will buy back your dirty diesel.” Again, you display your profound ignorance on this matter, as my vehicle is not eligible for a buyback. But you wouldn’t know this, as you are ignorant about the matter. But you sure do share your (uninformed) opinions on the matter, don't you?

The great thing about The First Amendment, is that it allows you to say practically whatever you want. So I defend you right to proclaim your ignorance, loud and proud, over and over again. It is your constitutional right to be ignorant, and vocal about it!

In closing, go ahead at have the last word. You know you soooooo want to :-) A good “oh yeah?” or two might make you feel better. Additionally, get on those alternate accounts and chuck a bunch of down-votes, just for good measure ;-)

Cheers.
