The GREAT Debate: Time To EXIT? BMW Announces M2 Competition With M4 Engine And LOTS Of Updates, Should 00R Trade Up?
It's been less than a year since I picked up my BMW M2 from BMW of Manhattan. And, to be straightforward, I am totally in love with my M2. Frankly, it can do no wrong.

But it was only the other day that news broke from the blue and white. The much rumored about M2 Competition has finally come out from hiding.

So, what's that mean?

Well, there's quite a bit, if I am honest. Most importantly, the M2 Competition receives the M4's engine and it will be good for about 405 horsepower. And then come the rest of the additions that include things like the M3/M4's seats, an upgraded instrument panel, new wheel and tire package, what appears to be an optional carbon ceramic big brake kit, a slight redesign on the facade and M mirrors — finally.

But is the juice worth the squeeze? According to swirling rumors it will cost an additional $10,000 USD just to get into the game. That's putting it right up there next to the price of an all-new M4 if that is true.

That said, I wanted to see what the Spies had to say about the matter: Is it time to trade up, or is it better to just stick with the standard M2?

Totally worth it !! This M2 competition will be the true flagship of BMW. ( for enthusiasts ) This will probably be their M since the e46 m3

Respectfully I found the E92 V8 M3 the UBER M3. That V8 was a work of art, I still miss it.

You have a point!

Regarding the V8 M3 (E90/E92), personally, I found that to be the worst M3 they ever built.

Drive the M2 Competition first. It may be very hardcore and track junkie focused. A nice thing about the current M2 is that it is happy as a daily driver as well as the track. Having said that the M2 Comp sure sounds awesome.

It depends on what Agent 00R actually does with the vehicle as far as I am concerned. There will always be a new and better "something" . THe questions are:
- 1 - Would it really be that much better in the way I drive the car - ie - in real life on the road AND
- 2 - AM I happy with the current performance and handling
- 3 - Is my car still in good enough condition to keep for a while

If the current car really Handles well - and has great performance (It is an M after all) - since most people will not actually KNOW the difference - Really it comes down to whether you are comfortable have the latest and greatest of JUST BEFORE the new one - and since you will probably the only one who really knows - does it matter that much to YOU to have the next one - probably realizing that if you do not move now - there will be a time when you do actually get a "next one".

I do not buy a car only to trade it in for the very next one - I buy it to have for a while - and when that time is up - now that I do have the money to buy anything I want - I look for what is current THEN.

Well said, Tom.

Personally, I am going to be hanging onto my 17. No way I'd trade up.

1) The performance gains are not significant enough.
2) I adore the original vehicle as shipped — The S55 motor isn't that compelling to me and the visual tweaks look like afterthoughts to me.
3) I hate the fact it has MORE technology. If it went the route of a 911 Carrera T or GT3, I'd be interested. The 17 MY car I have already has too much tech in it that I don't need/want.

Of course 00R should trade up. Given how fixated he is on the compromised, lackluster 2 Series to the point that he was willing to pay 2X the sane price for one, it follows that he should take plunge.

Everyone has their thing Matt.

It's not disputed though, the M2 is a great car at the moment.

"If you really need to win at the race track."...you need to know how to drive properly because an M2 in the hands of people who think the car is the cause of lap times is a danger to the other drivers.

The Camaro is a great product, no doubt. But, to me, there's no way I'd want one over the M2.

Different strokes for different folks in terms of how they deliver performance.

Best thing Agent 001 asked me when I was considering things like the ZL1 or GT350: "When you pull up to a red light, do you want to hear the rumble (duh duh duh duh duh) of the V8 motor?"

Frankly, I can't think of anything more detestable than that. As I've always written, I am a fan of sixes over eights.

Personally I'd rather have a more reliable and capable Camaro.

I have a 2017 M2 and love the car. I briefly considered the Competition Package but also agree that it probably isn't worth the extra money. Plus, if I wanted to upgrade my car that badly, I could probably get more for my money going to Dinan
