Model S Beware, Mercedes S-Class EV Due In 3 to 4 Years
Mercedes-Benz is developing a battery-powered sedan about the size of its $90,000 flagship S class, challenging Tesla's Model S for high-end electric-car buyers.

The new full-size sedan, dubbed EQ S, will be part of the Daimler's push to introduce 10 all-electric vehicles by 2022, CEO Dieter Zetsche said Wednesday during the presentation of the revamped Mercedes A-class hatchback in Split, Croatia.

The EQ line will be flanked by plug-in hybrid models offering a "totally different" battery range than today, while conventional vehicles will feature so-called mild hybrids with 48-volt technology in a shift away from pure combustion power. "All vehicles will be electrified," Zetsche said.

Beware now... 'cuz a monster comes... in 3 to 4 years? LOL!

In 3-4 years, Tesla might be Chapter 11 (or bought by a Chinese consortium). Someone else might already be heavily into EVs and ruling the roost. The landscape can change considerably over the next 3 to 4 years!

The problem with being a pioneer in a new area - is that while you are spending money to get your product selling - others with deep pockets are taking their time to see the technology and improve upon it. With first entry technology ingrained into its cars - Tesla has to move to not only become self financing at least - but also have money for future development. In fact - Tesla has spent large amounts of money on additional product - but until they have a cash cow that can sustain them - they are in trouble.

In the meantime - other larger manufacturers have current product to support their monetary needs - actually already know how to mass produce product and have done so successfully - so they do not need to put large amounts of money into that. When you add in the Tesla sales/service model - which will be a major disadvantage - (Non-competitive) - as the GMS and Diamlers of this world enter the fray - they have a major leg up.

The Mercedes EQS will be in a different market segment than the "fat Fusion" Model S.
