Tesla Says It Will No Longer Cooperate With The NTSB Over Model X Crash
Tesla has been in an uncomfortable spotlight recently following the fatal crash of a Model X on March 23rd. Tesla's Autopilot system was on in the car, and it steered the vehicle straight into a highway barrier, killing the driver. Now, according to The Wall Street Journal, Tesla has withdrawn from a formal cooperation agreement with the National Transportation Safety Board over the company's public release of crash details.

The company has been on the defensive since the accident. A week after the crash, Tesla issued an update confirming that its semiautonomous driving system was engaged in the vehicle at the time of the accident. However, the company also stated that the driver's hands had not been "on the wheel for six seconds prior to the collision," despite multiple visual and audio warnings. Tesla's Autopilot is semiautonomous and is not intended to be used without hands on the wheel.

Funny thing is the NTSB decided to exclude Tesla from the probe and will release an announcement later today. But Telsa is trying to beat the NTSB to the punch by saying they are voluntarily leaving the probe. It's like a couple in a breakup with each one trying to be the first to say they want out.

Not good news for Tesla. Very unusual for a manufacturer to be excluded from an active investigation.

Whoever said 2018 on this site probably has it.But end of year. Companies can drag it out before declaring. FY 2018 audit opinion likely to have going concern comment which would trigger a mess.

I am in the "t*ts up in 2018 / insolvent in 2019 / no more warranty and parts support (i.e. full Saab) in early 2020".

This is an 18 to 24 month remaining lifespan in my opinion.

You guys are out of your minds if you think Tesla is going to be bankrupt anytime soon.

Is that was Musk told you to say?

THere is NO law that I know of that prevents Tesla from releasing TRUE information about the accident in question. A request from the NTSB not to do so - is just that - a request. While the NTSB would like to prevent information from being released until it has had compete time to come to a conclusion - an eye witness to something can tell their story to the press - as well.

Since NTSB finding often take months - such time delay is not in the best interest of TESLA - and they certainly have the right to defend themselves against the allegations that could result in lost sales. While I am not commenting on the final result - IF Tesla's information is as they have it - and they released it to the public - there is nothing wrong with that. Remember - I am defending Tesla - although I am not a proponent of Tesla.

AS far as a Tesla Bankruptcy - I do agree that Tesla will have a real problem securing enough financing to continue the losses they have piled up - and that they are now deeply in Debt. However - I suspect money will be available to them - although not at favorable terms - and they will have to decide if they can continue under those conditions. Too many BIG players have too much to lose to cut them off right now.

Why do you assume Tesla would release "true" information? They haven't been truthful about anything, so now they are going to come clean?

Also Tommy, just because YOU aren't aware of something doesn't validate what you say.

Joker of a company..
if the autopilot system is not real autopilot and is actually semi-autonomous, then why call it autopilot ?
This company deserves to go under, and all those investors deserve to lose their money !

Below is an excerpt from the NTSB letter today where Tesla was booted from the investigation for breaking the agreement. Very, very rare for an auto manufacturer to be totally cut off from an active investigation. Now all Tesla can do is sit and wait for the investigation's results. Another nail in the coffin.

"Dear Mr. Musk:

This letter is to memorialize a conversation between you, NTSB Managing Director Dennis Jones, and me on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. In that conversation I informed you that NTSB has revoked Tesla's party status from the investigation of the March 23, 2018 automobile crash involving a 2017 Tesla Model X near Mountain View, California"..."because Tesla failed to abide by the terms
of the NTSB Party Agreement"

Actually - the NTSB has no such power to "force" a company to make changes to a design. IT CAN publically report and recommend those things - but requiring them to be implemented would require law.

Bottom line: Tesla has something to hide. They aren't cooperating because they know the details and know they will not be exonerated.

Here is a counter point to the common view on this site - it may prove that facts will win over biases.
