Pininfarina Plans To Attack The Italians With 250MPH EV Hypercar

Pininfarina has announced an all-electric hypercar, due in 2020, that will launch under the new Automobili Pininfarina brand. So far, Pininfarina has released headline performance figures for the potential Rimac C _Two  rival, which will be the first in a line of EVs to emerge from the new division.

All manufacturing, engineering and design operations of Pininfarina Automobili will be carried out in Europe, where the new firm will be located. Moreover, parent company Mahindra’s motorsport experience in Formula E will influence the development of the forthcoming hypercar, which promises jet fighter-like performance.

The same guy who fawns like a schoolgirl over each new Kia announcement thinks news of an Italian hypercar is boring. You can't make this shite up.

I'd prefer the superior engineering of Ferrari or Lamborghini rather than a company that draws cars sometimes.

Traditionally - when a "design" house produces a car - they are really only MONEY grabs from a bunch of well healed collectors looking for an addition to their Museums - They rarely bring anything new to the table - you never see them on the road - and the average millionaire probably does not even know how to "order" one.

That being the case - YAWN is an appropriate response. Now add in that the parent company is a TRACTOR company

I thought Pininfarina was Italian.

Nope. Mahindra owns them. Would you like curry on your linguine?

@carsnyc: Pininfarina used to be an wholly-owned Italian company. They did the gloriously gorgeous bodywork for Ferrari when everything rolling out Ferrari's doors was beautiful.

Today, Pininfarina still has headquarters in Cambiano, Italy with an Italian CEO and CFO, but they're owned by an Indian multinational conglomerate holding company, Mahindra Group, with HQ in Mumbai, India.

I don't know what effect (if any) Indian ownership has on Pininfarina's designs, but of what I've seen of some of their recent works, it appears their best designs might be behind them.
