CAR WARS! Super Sport Sedan Showdown: WHICH Would YOU Rather? BMW M5 vs. Mercedes-AMG E63 S?
When it comes to sport sedans, BMW used to be king. From the motor to the steering to the suspension, the blue and white just nailed it.

But, the tides have changed and it is not the only game in town.

With competition as hot as ever from the likes of Audi and Mercedes-AMG, the all-new M5 has some work to do. So, did it deliver? Only one way to find out...

The folks at Autocar recently put the M5 and the E63 S through some testing, back-to-back, to find out. While I won't spoil verdict for you, I will say this: I have never seen a review video where the presenters are visibly having difficulty deciding WHICH vehicle is the better one to choose.

Usually, it's a pretty clear cut choice. Not this time, Spies. IF you're in the market for one of these vehicles, it looks like you'll have a tough decision ahead of yourself.

That said, WHICH super sport sedan would YOU have? The M5 or the AMG?

The new BMW M5 is a terrific sports saloon. Or super saloon. Or sports sedan. Call it what you will: it's a big four-door executive car with a stonky twin-turbocharged V8 making shed loads of power, which it puts it through all four wheels - unless you stick it in rear-drive mode, in which case it only puts it through the rear wheels, obvs.

And if that sounds familiar, that's because it's exactly what the Mercedes-AMG E63 saloon does too: what with its four-door body, luxurious executive car interior, twin-turbocharged V8 engine and four-wheel drive with the option of rear ... well, you get the idea.

But which of these big saloons is best? Both as an everyday executive car, but also as an enjoyable car to drive. Step forward Autocar's two video-ready testers, as we find out which you should have: BMW M5 or Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

Video does not match the story.

The M5 wins as it has a bit more comfort, though the E63S was noted for having more "personality". For me, I guess I choose a car in this category for a reason, and that's for character and fun, which would make me lean towards the E63S. Its main criticism is its harsh ride, but I think it looks better inside and out and certainly sounds better.

Oh, and regarding that GLE63S and SQ7 comparison, I'd choose the AMG. It looks crazy aggressive, sounds amazing, and the interior has aged well despite being 7 years old already. The Audi is slower, dowdy looking, and a diesel.

Both of these cars have minimal legroom in the rear and none behind me when I am driving - remembering that I am very tall. If I am going to buy a "small" sports sedan - these two are TWO seaters as far as I am concerned - and I would prefer a 3 Series to a 5 anyday. Since both have only luggage racks in the back - the 3 series will be a little tighter and handle better than the 5 - ie - a better "sports" sedan.

However - the Mercedes equivalents are more luxurious than any BMW - currently seem to be built better - as well as "having more personality" - BUT I have a relatively local Mercedes dealer who I have dealt with for a long time - runs a good dealership - has a superior service department - and also competes well on price too. THe local BMW dealership simply cannot compete at any level.

Mercedes. There is no reason to buy a BMW.

Not sure if it is possible, but surely a car that costs as much as the E63S has adjustable suspension settings. If not, shop elsewhere. No car at that level should feel "a bit brittle" on any road.

The BMW faster (by a tad) easier to live with.

Watch this drag race. M5 is not faster than E63S.
