5th Generation Supra Designed Mostly In Japan But Don't Expect It To Be A Bargain

Little by little, the pieces of the 2019 Supra puzzle are falling into place. The latest Toyota representative to talk about the much-awaited revival of the sports car is the Vice President of Research & Development, Gerald Killmann. In an extended interview with AutoRAI covering several topics, he revealed some interesting details about the fifth-generation Supra.

We get to learn the coupe has been mostly developed at home in Japan, with only a minor input coming from Toyota’s European R&D team. Killmann went on to mention there will be a race car version of the new Supra, which isn’t all that surprising considering the Gazoo Racing-branded concept unveiled last month at the Geneva Motor Show.

It needed to be a bargain. Without mainstream affordability, it will not sell well and will be a disaster.

IT certainly has a Chance to sell better than the Honda NSX - however - as these once affordable cars move Upmarket - they risk being beyond the average enthusiast of prior models - at which time they either become collector cars that never have tread wear - or worse - the current IT car for rich senior citizens.

Even as I approach the latter - I cannot believe that any car manufacturer would want to encourage the image of a sports car for people my age.

Followed a new NSX today for a bit, then it just shot off..

great looking car and presence.. looks better than an i8, whch looks plasticy is frumpy...

Od course it will sell a lot better than the NSX...it will be a third of the price.
