National Mustang Day: Ford Replaces Fusion With Mustang In 2019 NASCAR Series

Ford will enter the Mustang in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series on the back of another record-setting year for the road car.

The new Mustang will replace the Fusion in NASCAR and celebrate its on-track debut at Daytona in February 2019. It will be just the fourth Ford model in NASCAR’s modern era following on from the Thunderbird, Taurus, and Fusion.

Initial testing of the Mustang stock car is still underway and it will be formally submitted to NASCAR for approval this summer.

Since the cars underneath these race cars have little or nothing to do with the "look"of the bodywork above - it makes even more sense to make these cars look like a performance vehicle rather than a mid-size sedan. If they really wanted a special look - they could use the Ford GT as a base - it would really turn heads.
