All these different changing standards reminds me of the days when appliances in the UK came without a plug. You'd have to attach your own, because AC electrical wall sockets had not been standardized yet.

We, in North America, just assume that when you buy an appliance, it'll plug into a standard wall socket; when you buy a light bulb, it'll screw into a standard light socket.

But when you buy an EV, ya gotta look for a charging station that matches your car's brand. Meh. I look forward to when that's all standardized, like wall power sockets, USB, Ethernet, light bulb sockets, gas stations' fuel and delivery, etc.

@joneshamilton: As MrEE point out, Tesla's connector plus the three other standards works out to 4 different standards for charging an EV. That's a factor to consider when one thinks of buying an EV or PHEV: Where can I get a charge?

Today's EV charging situation is far from standardized and ubiquitous.

Well that makes 4 standard connectors.

Oh wow - another ten connectors per state (on average) -= and TWENTY more in Canada. And today - dealerships tend to be on major highways well outside of downtown as well. When you line up ALL of the cars they intend to sell - it will only take a year to get to the front of the line - making this a good car if you only need it once a year - maybe something good for santa - but not for me.

Of course - I will be that not one of those charging stations will be in rural New Jersey - my closest Porsche dealer is over 20 miles away.
