CAR WARS! Mustang Edition: Which Would You Rather? Original vs. Retromod vs. All-new?

CAR WARS! Mustang Edition: Which Would You Rather? Original vs. Retromod vs. All-new?
If you haven't heard, today is national Ford Mustang day. While I don't think it's officially on the books as a day of national recognition, Ford did take the opportunity to ring in the car's 54th birthday at its Dearborn headquarters.

And there were a couple of announcements.

But rather than get bogged down in the side show and public relations bit, we wanted to ask the AutoSpies faithful a Mustang-focused question. While Agent 001 asked you before WHICH Mustang would you have, I was left stuck at a crossroads.

I was having a tough time deciding if I would want one of the following: An all-original car without any changes, a retromod that brings together the best of the vintage and modern worlds, or, an all-new 2019 Mustang.

That said, I've got to ask, Spies: WHICH would YOU rather? An all-original Mustang, a retromod or an all-new, 2019 Mustang?

What's it going to be?

If it’s a daily driver, the 2019 (has to be a V8) If it’s a weekend car, the original (has to be a V8).

There are different types of restomods. The ones that look like escapees from Count's Customs with the Rent-A-Wheel rims are horrid and rape the original car. The ones that update brakes, engine, transmission, and electrics but which maintain an original look are the ones to have.

My preference would be new Mustang, original Mustang, and a restomod that is tasteful as the last choice.

I have done some restomods when the cost to restore is simply too much money based on the condition of the car.

New Bullit Mustang, tastefully understated, nice job Ford. Older ones... it really depends. If it was a daily driver and nice restomod would be nice, keep it mostly stock looking outside but all new tech for engine, interior, suspension etc... If it is for a weekend car and collectability... Boss 429 would be nice, a more reasonable alternative might be a 67 fastback GT with a 390 and overhead console.

Sorry - I already posted in the other thread why I would never buy a Mustang.

However - today - I have still another reason - I now can afford a real Exotic Sports car if I wanted - I don't. WHen I could have really enjoyed such a car - I did not have the money. Now when I do - I no longer care.

Wonder why TomM thought we wanted to see up his nostrils?

Having over 4 vintage Mustangs (restored) and a 2017 Mustang GT,it is easy to declare that the new generation Mustang is LIGHT YEARS ahead of the nostalgic 50 year old vintage Mustang.

Both have their place but for driving, the new Mustang is the clear winner.

I'd rather own a '64 1/2, the original icon, in mint condition. I'd donate it to a museum for all fans to appreciate.

The original Mustang not only became an icon, it was a game changer because it had gorgeous styling (for the day), and surprising amenities at an affordable price. It was the "common man's" sporty car, but one that didn't leave him feeling "common."

Auto Historians see the original Mustang as one of the major events in automotive history. And rightfully so!
