LEAKED! Mercedes-Maybach's FIRST-ever SUV Gets EXPOSED Before Its BIG Reveal In China — FIRST Look
It's been rumored about for the past 12 or so months now but, finally, we're seeing Mercedes-Maybach's first ever sport-utility vehicle. And, as you'd expect, it is quite luxurious.

Painted that deep red that Maybach has been revealing its concepts in, the all-new SUV is expected to appear for the first time at the Beijing Motor Show. Pictures were leaked thanks to a Chinese auto news website.

Set to go up against the likes of the all-new Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga, it has a helluva competitive set. That said, let's see how much of the concept makes it to production.

As seen on previous Maybach concepts, it boasts a rather large and in charge front grille that is flanked by squinted headlights. Rather than have a traditional SUV greenhouse, it has a peculiar roofline that Agent 001 pointed out what appears to be a call back to the 1940s — once you compare it, you can't unsee it.

On the inside there's four-place seating and an assload of legroom in the back. It definitely looks like the lessons learned from the S650 have been applied here. I would definitely like to spend time back there.

Powering the Maybach SUV concept are four electric motors that provide all-wheel drive and 738 horsepower.

So, what do you make of it, Spies? Are you digging Mercedes' direction here, OR would you prefer something a bit more edgy? What say you, Spies?

...Photographs of the car first surfaced on CarNewsChina.com, after a web page for the model seems to have been briefly published ahead of time by accident on the official Mercedes-Benz website and can still be seen in cached form.

The car, which Mercedes's premium arm describes as an "SUV saloon", is intended to appeal to affluent Chinese buyers who are vital to the success of super-luxury car sales worldwide. It follows similar models from rivals, such as the Bentley Bentayga and upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan...

This is not a Crossover - It is simply a raised 4 Door sedan - with 4 wheel drive. Since you can get an S class with 4 wheel drive - what is the advantage in the "raised" suspension - when this is not a car you would consider to drive off the road?

And of course - it will sell like hotcakes

People like the extra space SUVs provide as well as the elevated driving position.

I am not so keen on it but many are.

Agent009 - Yes - I agree - people do like the extra space a normal crossover provides - but this car doesn't do that - it has a trunk. For a performance sedan - the added height is a detriment to handling as well. So - why not a regular "hatchback" crossover - I suspect it will have to come anyway.?

@TomM...you do realize that crossovers are hatchbacks, right?

Yikes.

I'm all about the raised driving position and the feeling of superiority some people must get from that. But this is a lifted sedan. And people are attracted to SUVs for the added cargo area, which this doesn't seem to have. Is Mercedes trying to create a whole new niche, much like they did with the CLS? Will this called an SUS, Sports Utility Sedan?

I don't know, Benz. I'm shaking my head on this one.

Merc has some of the best styling in the biz but this thing is hideous.

I completely agree. Their Maybach concepts are inexplicably given odd proportions.

It doesn't look like a Mercedes (or Maybach edition) at all. Acura headlights? Pontiac grill?

The concept is only a design study and is not set for production.
The real production will look very different

this raised sedan-like CUV has been confirmed as the Vision Merc-Maybach UL concept (Ultimate Luxury) at the Beijing AS. It seems like a driver's vehicle, so the rear window design is kinda in the way.
