Better Business Bureau Gives Tesla An "F" For Complaint Resolution

Better Business Bureau Gives Tesla An

Tesla may get an “A” grade for the look of, and experience that comes with driving one of its vehicles. And when it comes to drumming up publicity, Chief Executive Elon Musk’s grades have to be at the top of the class:

But when it comes to where it stands with the Better Business Bureau…Well, there, Tesla gets an “F” due to how poorly the BBB says Tesla responds to customer complaints.

And yet, hard-core Tesla Fans are unshaken with their love of the brand. Blind devotion can run strong.

Tesla still has the highest brand satisfaction of any car. This ranking is based on a few dozen complaints sent to the BBB that Tesla has not been very responsive on. Tech companies in general are pretty crappy at responding through BBB versus their official support channels. For perspective Google is rated D. I don't think this is the ideal approach, but BBB rankings do not necessarily correlate with quality or overall satisfaction.

@SanJoseDriver: You are correct in stating that Tesla has extraordinarily high customer satisfaction ratings. This holds true, in spite of Tesla's many known defects, quality control issues, and litany of problems.

This disconnect between problematic vehicles and customers who rave about how great they are, is not a good thing for Tesla. It lets the manufacturer off the hook by not holding them accountable for their shortcomings. It also misleads prospective consumers into believing their car will be an issue-free experience, when the reality is far from that.

Here's just one of many videos that explain the phenomenon:

That might just mean that Tesla hasn’t paid the money for their A rating this year. BBB has now power and is a pay service.

Never got the appeal of tesla. They are way overpriced and not that attractive. For people with more money than brains.

Everyone I know that has one, loves their car--and most of them are pretty smart people that could afford any car they want. I stretched my budget for mine, but have no regrets.

Nearly 400,000 local businesses in North America support the BBB.[4] The BBB prospects successfully vetted businesses to become dues-paying 'accredited businesses' that pledge and continue to adhere to the BBB Code of Business Practices.[5] In return, the BBB allows accredited businesses in good standing to use its trademarked logo in marketing materials.

The Better Business Bureau is not affiliated with any governmental agency. Businesses that affiliate with the BBB and adhere to its standards do so through industry self-regulation. To avoid bias, the BBB's policy is to refrain from recommending or endorsing any specific business, product or service.[6]

The organization has been the subject of controversy, particularly related to its alleged practice of giving higher ratings to businesses that pay a membership fee. The BBB disputes the claim that payment from businesses is required for them to receive an "A" rating.[7] Business consultant and previous national Manager of Customer Service for Checker Auto Parts Eva Love observed, "Complaining about a business to the Better Business Bureau is like complaining to the mouse's mother after a mouse steals your cheese. It will help if the wind is blowing in your direction."[8]

While it is clear that the BBB is not a neutral third party to complaints - to get an F requires a large number of them - regardless of their result.

The problem is - we do not know what the complaints involve - whether they involve actual mechanical problems - or other things - like the time lost in LONG DISTANCE TOWS to a service center. Since the worst the BBB can do to a business is terminate their membership - it is not the route I would choose if I had a major complaint.

Its starting to unravel. Poor quality, delayed introduction, manufacturing problems, poor complaint resolution, cash flow issues, etc etc. As soon as the big boys introduce their EV lines the market shift to more established brands will be a real problem for Tesla.

Just more evidence that Tesla likely has media bloggers posing as real owners polluting stating how stunningly satisfied they are. Thankfully, we have no one here spamming us with how infallible Teslas are.

Their the only car company I know of that has spent $0 on advertising, you really think they would waste money on shills to promote them on forums? That sounds like something certain politician(s) would do. The next few months are going to be really interesting on this forum.

Obviously! Tesla could not possibly have any fans. None! They all have to be paid shills, if not AI bots sent by Lord Musk to take over Autospies.
