You Gotta SEE To Believe: Truckers Help Police In Detroit After Man Threatens To Jump From Overpass

While you were sleeping, a unique act of heroism took place overnight along I-696 in metro Detroit.

A line of 13 truckers, with assistance from Michigan State Police, created a wall on the I-696 freeway near the Coolidge exit to help prevent a man from jumping off the overpass.

Chris Harrison, who claims to have been part of the "trucker wall" and shared some photos in a Facebook post on the Twisted Truckers page, said the act of heroism took place between 1 and 3 a.m. Tuesday, starting with one truck...

I say if someone threatens to jump from an overpass chant "do it do it do it". Most of the time such cases are attention-seeking drama types, but if they actually do it, then that reduces medical care costs.

I applaud the effort by a group of caring individuals to attempt to save the life of a person. The idea that these people are sane and simply want attention is nonsense - no sane person would attempt to take their own life for that reason.

And anyone who would spur a person on to kill themselves really needs help themself. I urge such people to seek out competent professional help - they need it BADLY

^^^^^ Typical "I'll pretend to care from a distance" response of true narcissists.

Yes, in many cases, there is a degree of wanting positive attention. However, when a person is at the point where they are literally one step away from committing that ultimate act, they have progressed far beyond the point of needing attention. They are actually at the point where they no longer want the attention. And chanting for them to just do it would reinforce the sense of alienation or failure exponentially.

@MDarringer: In a mind poisoned by bitterness and hate, every good motive observed is viewed with suspicion and distrust, every kind gesture suspected of ulterior motive, every act of kindness regarded as self-serving in undertone.

I hope you get better, Matt. Truly :-(

Typical BS from TheSteve. But he knows NOTHING about psychology.

The psychology of a jumper is NOT to jump but to get attention. If they were serious, they'd just do it.

In fact people who work in the field of suicidality will say that the first question to ask a person who says they are going to commit suicide is NOT to express alarm, but to ask how they are going to do it.

If they have an answer, take them seriously, BUT the lion's share of those who express that they are going to commit suicide want drama and the concern of others, but ultimately such an expectation of drama and concern from others is a narcissistic move.

And so it is with this case.

Now on the flip side, when people who have ZERO emotional or situational connection to a person like this express their concern and heartfelt bla bla bla prattling, that too is largely a function of narcissism because they emote NOT for the sake of the person, but rather they emote so people will see them emoting and to have those people assume they are "good", "caring" people. Thus more narcissism.

Beyond that however are the hypocrites like TomM and TheSteve who routinely engage in hate speech and bullying who then pretend and emote--such as in this case--in an effort to SEEN as compassionate without actually having to DO anything compassionate. Such people are hypocrites, but Stevie and his daddy Tommy demonstrate that readily as it is.

@runbuh There's nothing to reconcile. You don't understand the psychology of suicidality. Thus you react PRECISELY as the drama seeker wants you to react which is to pour your heart out and show concern. These days you need a social media component as well, thus this above post and the "our hearts go out" talk. But make no mistake, these drama seekers are emotional vampires. They will suck it all in and then do it again down the road when the high wears off. Saying that may not be pretty and it will raise the eyebrows a bit, but the psychology is the psychology.

@MDarringer re “hate speech” – Your record here at AutoSpies stands for itself! I encourage readers to read our respective posting history, and draw their own conclusions. In fact, this very forum is a good place to start, right from the top.

Once again, you have found enough rope to hang yourself. But don’t worry, Matt – You still have a handful of “fine people” (in the Trumpian context) here on AutoSpies who resonate with your mindset and your posts!

A HUGE bow and deep respect for those truckers, and for the police officers on the scene. It warms my heart to see Americans shining -- humanity at its best <3
