Lexus Shows Confidence With First Ever ES F Sport Version

Lexus Shows Confidence With First Ever ES F Sport Version
Lexus is so confident in the performance chops of the redesigned ES sedan that it is giving the remake of one of its frumpiest nameplates an F Sport version for the first time.

Long a sensible choice of the over-60 set, the ES now moves to a new modular platform with a lower center of gravity and sportier handling. The platform is a Lexus derivative of the Toyota New Global Architecture that underpins the latest Toyota Camry and Avalon sedans.

This is the best ES they ever made. Sales will increase, but I afraid it will just make the GS even more difficult to sell. It was never meant to get sales from E/5-series so this won't change.

GS is going bye bye, remember?

GS discontinued is just a rumor. I can't see Lexus invest in something like the RC and LC and get rid of GS. GS will be coupe-like to compete with A7, CLS, 6-series.

This is simply an admission from Lexus that it cannot actually compete in the Premium Class at that price level. WHO would ever compare the ES to a 3 series or a C-class? WHy - because it is "reliable" - duh! It really compares to the Cadillac XTS and Buick LaCrosse.

AS far as a "sport version" - they have made sport versions of all sorts of vehicles - even Hyundais. Tighten up the suspension - MAYBE a little more power - and a blacked out grill - is the formula. REAL sportsmen are not fooled by this.

What the ES does have - is the Cadillac Customers who were driven away by DeNysschen and told not to come back.

The GS is being discontinued with the arrival of the new ES. This is why the new edition is a bit sportier and will move up just slightly in price with packages.

I think Lexus was considering either reducing GS production or dropping it until the market swings back toward more sedan sales.

The new Lexus styling is too aggressive for the 60+ crowd. So adding a F Sport variant seems like a no brainer when you can charge more... I didn’t know the GS was being discontinued, that’s really too bad as it’s one of my favorite Lexus given it’s RWD, right size and price to me.

They should have created a TuRD version of this like Toyota has lol complete with a fake hood scoop, cheap after market looking body panels add-ons power that's a joke.

They should have engineered AWD into this new platform, so that they can get rid of the GS and have the ES be their only midsize sedan. At the ES price points they could steal sales from the Germans. A FWD sedan is not really competitive with other luxury cars.

Meh. Not feeling it. It already looks dated, both inside and out. Lexus certainly has a penchant for creating cars that are designed to look overly dynamic while also being overly mundane, all at once. That's a true talent, I believe.

Almost every time there is a car holding up traffic it is the ES or some other Prius. They have the second oldest consumers with Benz being number 1. I still don't consider then to be luxury cars but more of near luxury. Either way more power to them, I am sure we will see a bunch of them on the road, holding up traffic.
