Cash In The 401k, Because You Will Need $155,000 For That Polestar 1 You've Been Dreaming Of

Geely and Volvo’s new electric car brand is showcasing the Polestar 1 at the Beijing Auto Show this week. Which is all well and fine. But more to the point, they’ve announced pricing for the hybrid coupe.

The Polestar 1 will carry a sticker price of $155,000 in the United States. In Europe, it will sell at par for €155,000. And in China (where it will be made), it will retail for ¥1.45 million.

For that sum, buyers will get a sleek hybrid coupe with 600 horsepower (447 kW) and 737 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque.

A $155,000 Volvo made in China? I don't think so. But...It is a beautiful car.

I agree - A Volvo is not a prestige car - it is a second tier Luxury car - primarily selling in the range with the Buick, Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura - a step below the true premiums.

Yes - Geely is trying to bring it upmarket in China - but even the Chinese will only go so far.

Only 500 per year. Body is made of carbon fiber and has 600 hp. 90 miles of pure electric range. Gorgeous to boot. Price isn't so outrageous imo.

$155,000 for a Volvo? A big "nope" from me.

Surely this car will find 500 buyers. Its not a volume proposition but a brand and image building exercise. Exclusivity sells when it looks this good.

The pricing is nuts. I don't get why anyone would buy this for $155k. It's not a great EV and its not a great luxury car, who is this for?

Why wouldn't they offer a petrol version with less HP at a third the cost? The thing looks gorgeous, it doesn't need to be a huge performer if sold around $50k.
