It's A SUV World - Ford Killing All Sedans Except Mustang!
Ford Motor Co. on Wednesday said it plans to stop selling all Ford brand sedans in North America and that it is nearly doubling its cost-cutting target by 2022 from the plan it laid out only six months ago. The automaker said it will either fix or eliminate unprofitable global operations.

Ford said the only cars it will keep in North America beyond their current generations are the Mustang and the Focus Active arriving in 2019.

Short sighted by the bean counters in Detroit! The fat profits from F-Series trucks should be more than enough to give them money investing in sedans.

IMO, it's mostly about the quality of your product. If you don't have attractive cars that people want, this is what happens. But give it a year or two. They'll be back selling sedans again.

A Mustang shooting brake AWD crossover would likely sell very well.

Note - they did not say they would not be producing Lincoln Sedans. THat would mean a factory capable of producing the current Fusion would have to remain in production - along with the MKZ and Continental.

The problem is that most FORD smaller cars are SMALLER - especially in rear seat room. WHen GM reduced Malibu rear seat room last generation - the market stopped buying them. THe American Market still needs to have cars designed for our market - not Europe (THe same problem Cadillac has)

Wow, that is really surprising. I had no idea sedans were selling that poorly compared to SUVs.

They are still selling well, but anyone in the industry can see them shrinking in volume. A sedan can sit in inventory for weeks where some crossovers are there for days. Obviously, you want product that moves in days not weeks on end.

Like Minivans, GM and Ford exit and market is better off with a few good options. Same will happen with mainstream sedans.

Germans trying to establish performance SUV market, how long until Mustang becomes a SUV?

"...Ford Killing All Sedans Except Mustang..." ...ummm...title kinda infers that the Mustang is a sedan. To have said "Ford is killing all sedans" would have been clear.

All the current sedans will be discontinued. Isn't Ford replacing the next Fusion with a set of 3-4 Fusion variants (sedan, wagon, 2/4-door hatch) on their new modular platform (similar to VW/MB plan to use their own modular platforms to build a range of med/small vehicles more efficiently). The Mustang will remain in production. Still don't know if the Flex/MKT will hang on a bit longer.
