DRIVEN: Lamborghini's Urus Just May Be The Perfect Hyper SUV
Like many children of the late Seventies, I was one of those teenagers with a Lamborghini Countach poster taped to my bedroom wall in Detroit, near the equally iconic image of Farrah Fawcett in swimsuit and curls. (I know, such a cliché). Will modern teenagers feel compelled to pay boudoir homage to the Lamborghini Urus, an SUV that well-to-do parents might use to haul cases of Krug, or to dune-surf in Dubai? I kinda doubt it. What I don’t doubt, after testing the Urus near Rome, is that said parents won’t need to fantasize like broke teenagers: They’ll just cut a check and add a Urus to their multi-car collection.

Perfect is a term that is hard to Justify for the Urus. What is it perfect about it? Certainly - the tires needed to use the power it can produce - reduce its efficiency as a 4x4 alone. Most people buy a Crossover for its ability to carry cargo - the Urus is deficient there too. Add in a marginal rear seat too.

That does not mean it will not sell - I would guess the entire first year production is already sold out. And most of them will never see true 4x4 use offroad -or even onroad.

I'm sure the Urus is nice. Been a long awaited SUV. But it's also an example of "utility" overkill. Same with the Bentayga.

It could have been a little lower & a lot more "slicker" in profile. The "go everywhere" capability isn't really needed.
