DRIVEN + REVIEW: Consumer Reports Offers Its FIRST Take On The All-new Range Rover Velar — What's YOUR Impression?
When I first heard about the all-new Land Rover Range Rover Velar, I must admit I was a bit perplexed.

Would it really make sense in the company's product portfolio? Would it sell? Does it actually advance Land Rover from a product perspective?

After driving one, I can confidently say yes, yes and yes.

But what do normal folks think of the all-new Velar? Well, that's where our friends at Consumer Reports come into the picture.

The well-known publication recently got some seat time behind the wheel and in this short clip they go through the Velar from the 30,000-foot perspective. They spell out the good, the bad and the ugly. Give it a watch and let us know if you concur with their findings.

The Range Rover Velar has sleek styling cues, a luxurious interior and high-tech controls. But from behind the wheel, drivers may find an experience that's more akin to a sports sedan than an SUV.

Why did they name it "Velour"? Thanks Clarkson.

When LR distributed all the glossy images at launch and showed it in sleek, tone-on-tone colors, I thought it was beautiful.

But seeing Velar's in the flesh, especially in dark colors, it just looks like a blob with a cave for an interior.

I thought the pop out door handles were cool too at first, but unlike the Tesla, these only lie flush when the doors are locked and if the vehicle is unlocked, they protrude out too much and look like crap. If you walk around a parking lot, you can see who left their Velar unlocked by noted that the door handles are popped out.

The Jaguar F-Pace is a much better implementation of this platform in my opinion.

I don't care enough about Consumer Reports' opinions to watch the video.

So you're not interested in how many bags of dog food it can carry?

Ha ha. You're right. I'll watch it with my Irish Setter.

My Rottweiler-Labrador cross says it's too small for him and his companions. He much prefers the Escalade.

Sorry - I do not even see the point of the Velar.

I you can only afford one vehicle - it doesn't make any sense at all.
And if you can afford as many as you want - why would you want it?
