RUMOR: It's Coming...Reports Indicate A Tarted Up Audi S8 Is On The Way, With Potential For MUCH More...
The all-new Audi A8 has yet to hit US shores but there's talk starting to bubble up about the all-new S8 sedan. Considering they've been building it for years and with the Mercedes-AMG S63 and BMW M760i on the market, the four rings can't rest on its laurels.

So, what should we expect?

According to Autoblog, this is the latest:

Autobild reports that the next-generation Audi S8 will be introduced later this year, and we've pieced together intel from various reports for an idea of what we'll get. Autocar says the coming D5 sedan will get a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 sourced from the Porsche Panamera Turbo, ditching the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that Audi developed with Bentley and put in the current D4 S8. According to the report, the V8 will make 535 hp; that's seven fewer horses than the same engine makes in the Porsche, but 22 hp more than the last standard S8...

Now I am not sure about you, boys and girls, but I'll buy that.

Here's the twist though, Spies. The latest reports hint that there may be something a bit hotter coming down the 'pike. There's suggestions that the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid's powertrain could find itself home in the next-gen S8 as well. The thinking is it will be dubbed the S8 E-Tron and come with around 620 horsepower.

Does this sound appetizing to you? What say you, Spies?

Hey Audi, drop the price of your Avalon $40K to make the price relevant to the Oldsmobile styling and you've got a deal.

The S Class is simply worth the money and the Audi simply isn't.

Save about 70k and get a C-Class instead of an S-Class. They look the same going down the street.

Audi is here to stay, sorry VAG hurt your feelings.

Sorry BW 5011- but only a blind person would mistake a C-class for an S class in person. ANd while I agree that the current two cars are closer together than they ever were before - Mercedes styles the TOP CAR first - the S class - while Audi still styles from the small cars up.

THe current A8 does not even remotely compete with the last generation S class - and it simply does not have the "presence" of a high end car - which is why it doesn't sell well.

Dropping a tremendous engine and chassis to the new A8's design is kind of like giving Rosanne Barr a transplant of a heart from a young athlete.

Why does Audi continue using the grille Hyundai stole from them?

If true it would be very disappointing.
A proof of Porsche castrating Audi so it does not kill overpriced and underpowered Panamera (compared to much cheaper E63 or M5).
I have the current S8Plus and I was hoping to see the new S8 to have that engine in a base version, a minimum to compete with M760 or S63 which both have over 600hp.Current Audi S8 power rating is underestimated as proven by various dyno tests, new Panamera is exactly what is advertised and is not superior to anyone except a KIA.
The new Hybrid 680HP Panamera is a bust, dealers can't sell them, ridiculously overpriced and with the additional porky weight is not even quicker then the lesser regular Turbo they have.
Audi will become irrelevant in this segment as long as it is controlled by full of itself Porsche.

Audi will remain irrelevant in this segment as long as it does an all-new car that is 100% indistinguishable from the car it replaces.

Audi will remain irrelevant in this segment as long as it bases its bold new look on borrowing its styling intact from a Hyundai Elantra.

The Porsche Panamera is NOT why the A8 is not taken seriously as an S Class competitor.

The Audi S8 used to be a viable sports/luxo sedan (enen gaining the prestige of being featured in my all-time favorite movie, "Ronin" in its first-gen form).

The S8 on this new, porky, platform is akin to GM selling a Buick Lacrosse with a CTS-V powertrain and calling it the Buick Lacrosse Type R.

No thanks.
