As pump gas costs rapidly escalate, I am watching to see how high prices must be to stem the tide of SUV and truck sales. Even the new ones suck their large gas tanks dry at a startling rate.

Remember - people CAN switch to new smaller Crossovers from larger ones to get better mileage. Many of the smaller Crossovers are really Front WHeel Drive only as well.

WHat I predict is that the sales of FORD cars are going to drop off even faster now that they announced they were dropping most of them - which is a direct hit on the resale value of the ones going. THere are at least some of those sales are people who actually want a sedan - do not want a crossover - and will go to other manufacturers - likely GM will get a boost from that.

So sad to see the Continental doing so bad.

Im surprised to see that the new Expedition is doing too poorly in sales.

Probably will kill the Lincoln cars and Flex. Focus and Fusion sales much higher each than all Lincoln, Mustang and Edge. I can see the single model Focus made in China may pickup the current Focus sales, Not sure what can match up to the Fusion so sales don't go elsewhere.

When the Explorer turns over the CD6, the Flex and the Taurus die.

Ford shot itself in the foot with the Mustang being offered as a turbo 4 and a V8. There have been people interested in a Mustang who don't want a turbo 4 and are not willing to step up to the price of the V8. Bringing back the V6 would help sales. The absence of the V6 pretty much made that portion of the sales volume absent from the total volume of the Mustang's overall sales.

Heads are gonna roll. Who's the fool that gave the thumbs up to the Continental just as large sedans were taking a dive? Should have invested all that R&D into a sporty hybrid CUV that could take on the GTI.
