Honda Sales Dip Slightly In April - Acura Drops 8.9% For Month

Two fewer selling days and one less weekend in April 2018 vs. a year ago, impacted Honda car & truck sales like the rest of the auto industry. However, the brand’s core models performed strongly while Odyssey and Pilot were standouts for the month.

  • Odyssey posted a robust gain of 21.2% on sales of 8,464 units in April, further strengthening its 2018 sales leadership.
  • Pilot sales increased for the 8th straight month, rising 22% on sales of 11,891 units for the month.
  • Civic and CR-V sales topped 28,000 in April and Accord crested 21,000, to post strong results for Honda’s core models.

Looking forward to the upcoming launch of the all-new 2019 RDX, Acura displayed the still considerable strength of the current RDX as it made a solid gain in April. ILX and RLX also enjoyed sales increases for the month.

  • RDX gained 10.8 percent in April on sales of 4,201 units.
  • The Acura ILX and RLX sedans also gained sales ground, with ILX up 21.6% and RLX up 61.3% in April.

Whoa. The NSX only moved 5 new cars all month.

Adding credence to the idea that it should have been aimed at and priced like a Corvette.

Moreover, the Accord's sales took a dive and that is a good indicator of the new Accord not being well received. Honda may have created the car to ruin the Accord.

The new Accord is actually being very well received, as a product. The problem, as has been clearly stated, is that Honda is not being competitive with its leases. The only offer right now is the base model at a monthly payment higher than a comparable Camry lease, with more money down. Considering this, and the fact that Accords are prices are increasing, 21K in sales isn't a bad thing at all. I was actually talking to a Honda salesman 2 weeks ago, for an Accord as a possible 2nd car, and he stated what to expect as far as leasing a mid-trim level Accord, and I was really taken aback. The payment he quoted me wasn't far off from leasing a decently optioned A4/330i/C300, truthfully.

Yes, Accord needs a better lease (at least for the basic model) but it also needs to a) Offer a V6 for about $350 a month, b) Finish that front grill (just a touch), c) Offer nicer wheels all across the line, and d) Change the tail lights completely (Not even Volvo could pull that style in the S90).

Latest Honda updated model doing poorly, Accord, Ridgeline, and CRV?

Let's assume what you're saying is true...given the collapse of sedans NOT offering cut-rate financing and pushing fleets sales is ILLOGICAL. Thus, bad management on Honda's part.

Whatever the excuses you imagine, Honda/Acura sales are down for the year.

Very little difference in engineering or design/finish between Acura and Honda. Save your money.

Yes some have negative sales (Honda, Nissan) and some positive (Toyota, BMW).

A significant amount of fleet and rental cars are exported after they are taken out of service. So it's just a function as to how fast the cars can be shipped out really.
