Automakers Fear Legal Battle With California Over New Fuel Efficiency Standards
Major automakers are telling the Trump administration they want to reach an agreement with California to avoid a legal battle over fuel efficiency standards, and support continued increases in mileage standards through 2025.

"We support standards that increase year over year that also are consistent with marketplace realities," Mitch Bainwol, chief executive of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, a trade group representing major automakers, will tell a U.S. House of Representatives panel on Tuesday, according to written testimony released on Monday.

California will continue to win this battle - not on the basis of fuel economy - but on the basis of Environmental emissions. Since THEY apply to virtually all man made sources - the Feds can change their mileage targets - and even California can do that - but UNTIL California changes its Air QUality Standards - it won't make a difference. California is in a unique position Air Quality wise - with the Mountains being a natural barrier that keeps emission in the Valleys - before the mountains - and THey can show that bad air quality is a health risk. Since the federal government cannot show that to be false - California always wins these things.

I'm all in favor of California being as clean as they want to be. I know there are folks here who believe in "clean coal" and that global climate change is a hoax, and it pisses them off that others don't follow suit and blindly follow. I file anti-environmentalists in the same bin as Moon Hoaxers and Flat Earthers.

@fiftysix: You and I covered this before on AutoSpies. You simply don't know the facts... Y'know: Diesel bad, EVs good... and that sort of mindless following.

As I recall, in my last interaction with you, I pointed out your blatant ignorance of Dieselgate, with you not knowing the differences between the 2.0L and 3.0L engines' implications (besides displacement), the Gen-1 vs Gen-2 3.0 L engines, who is eligible for buybacks, etc. You really don't know "your ass from a hole in the ground" on this matter, as they say.

But hey, by all means, do weight in with your opinion! That is your First Amendment right: Freedom of Expression. The right to be ignorant, and to proclaim it loudly! :-)

It's predictable how you have nothing better up his sleeve than deflection, projection, and denial. Ignorance is your constant companion, buddy. That's jist the way of your Klan.

And it irks you to all get-out when someone calls you out for it, and has a giggle at your expense. Just like other Alt.Right Nazis, you can only feel better about yourself when dishing out hate, but when someone calls you out for it... whaaaaaa :-(

Lastly, it pisses you off that people care about the environment, public wellbeing, and will call out the "clean coal" and Climate Change Denial crowd (such as yourself) for being Science Illiterates.

So, to recap, I pointed out you are ignorant about Dieselgate, and you went nonlinear with claims of thuggery and meltdowns. Kinda speaks for itself, doesn't it?

Lastly, just because this quote explains your behavior so accurately, I'd like to include it once more...

"Donald Trump, champion and avatar of the shallow state, has won power because his supporters are threatened by what they don't understand, and what they don't understand is almost everything. Indeed, from evolution to data about our economy to the science of vaccines to the threats we face in the world, they reject vast subjects rooted in fact in order to have reality conform to their worldviews. They don't dig for truth; they skim the media for anything that makes them feel better about themselves. To many of them, knowledge is not a useful tool but a cunning barrier elites have created to keep power from the average man and woman."

@fiftysix The problem with TheSteve is that he does not see the bigotry and intolerance in everything he says. Then you slather on his narcissistic arrogance where he tries to "go academic" but flails and flails as he composes essay after essay. He's a typical Liberal. He will listen ONLY if you say what he wants to hear and if you say what he doesn't want to hear, he shouts louder and with an even more shrill tone. Safe space and pussy hat indeed.

@fiftysix and @MDarringer,

Thank-you for doing a “Rudy Giuliani” and providing us with real-world examples of what the David Rothkopf quote spells out so clearly. I couldn’t have asked more from you :-) Thanks guys!

Why do you bother arguing with these neanderthals? They're just dumb alt-right trolls. Boring ones at that.

@fiftysix...Notice how TheSteve proved my point for me?

Steve, you're a one-trick pony with the same hateful message over and over. We're here to discuss cars not your hatred.

TheSteve

THere was a time when AUTO SPIES was actually a site that discussed CARS - something that even the anarchistic idiotic alt- right could thoughtfully discuss with the prudent and intellectual left.

Then Daffy got elected (HE loves names - you know!)

And we have had RECORD Major Floods - earthquakes - Hurricanes - even Volcanic eruptions - incredible snow falls - and even the daughter of an online Minister who can only manage an occasional truth among the gibberish and lies.

And while cars and their related "things" have been replaced by messages that only makes the idiots look worse. BUT - the titles of these items have been deliberately used by the site to actually foment these messages.

@TomM, I gotta agree with you. I've finally(!) concluded there's no point in responding to "rightsies" (AKA "Daffies"). They're scientifically illiterate, fact-averse, and they can only muster a rhetoric of projection (e.g., claiming OTHERS are triggered), deflection, and derision. I can't expect more from someone who is incapable for being more :-/

I'm doing my best to not feed the trolls, Daffies, etc. :-)

Back to car stuff!!
