Lotus Confirms New Esprit And SUV In The Pipeline

Lotus boss Jean-Marc Gales has revealed that two new sports cars are in the pipeline as investment begins to materialise from the company’s new owner, Chinese automotive giant Geely.

The two cars will include a new star model, due in 2020, that will sit above the Evora — essentially placing it as a modern-day version of the Esprit. It follows recent news that Lotus is currently finalising the design of its first crossover, which is expected to make use of Geely-owned Volvo’s SPA architecture.

The 2010 Danny Barr concept was great. And it had its own Lotus V8 turbo engine. Hopefully, the new Esprit sees the light of day this time around.

Here we go again. Lotus promised a product offensive a while back and NOTHING.

The difference now is Lotus finally has money behind it. Even when it was owned by GM they were reluctant to put money into Lotus. Geeley has shown that they are not reluctant to put money into developing a brand (Volvo).

Lotus has money behind it, but no market. Its products are wrong for the price.

I have to agree with Darringer on this one. I think when the Espirit comes out it should be priced in 911 territory where the Evora should be priced right up with a Cayman. The Elise should be priced in the mid to high 30's as the volume leader. Do to sharing technology with Volvo Geeley should be able to better amortize costs between Lotus and Volvo(especially if a Lotus SUV is on the horizon).
