Horsepower War Goes Crazy As Mercedes Preps 805 HP AMG Hybrid V8 Powerplant

Before the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe was introduced, it was previewed by an even more outrageous concept, complete with a biturbocharged 4.0-liter hybrid V8, producing a monstrous 805 horsepower (600 kilowatts). Bad news is, that engine didn’t carry over to the final production model – but good news is, we could see that same engine in an AMG vehicle down the line.

In an interview with Digital Trends, Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed that the hybrid V8 engine will go into production "one day." Moers didn’t specify what kind of vehicle the setup would make its way underhood of, but promised that engineers are currently working on a production version.

"One day". TEASE!

But I don't know. As enticing as it sounds, do we really need an 805hp hybrid car on our roads?

Yes we do so that our teenagers can kill themselves in them. That's the only thing I can think of. 300 horsepower is too much for most people, let alone 400 or 500.

FYI they are bringing back the 73 nomenclature for this powertrain.

Get them while you can

If you believe SanJoseDriver - they will be replaced by EVs - and ICE vehicles will be outlawed.

I you understand the government - and the advances in automatic control of cars - eventually - your speed - acceleration - car separation - braking - maybe even lights and wipers - will be controlled from outside your car EVEN if you are at the wheel. Certainly I expect Hard speed limit signs - that send that to your car computer - to appear eventually - and at that point - if all vehicles are limited to the same performance - why pay for huge engines.

Of course TVR shot for 1000hp with the Speed 12 and the engine broke the dynamometer. The Cerbera Speed 12 is a work of sheer terror.
