"she was looking at her phone prior to the collision" - driver still at fault and lucky to be alive.

Yet, I have to ask why the hell AP is not picking up the fire truck. Based on the wheels this is an AP2.0/2.5 car, latest hardware.

It works if you use it properly, that is paying attention.

If the driver has to pay attention yet not be actively involved what is the advantage? Pure boredom sets in and they start doing something else.

Tesla's Autopilot is not Level-5 autonomous driving. Tesla tells you in its user manual that you must always be alert, situationally aware, and ready to take control of the vehicle.

So a driver who is looking at their cellphone in a Tesla or in a Prius is in exactly the same predicament: Distracted driving in a vehicle without Level-5 autonomy. That's not a good place to be, and that because of poor driver judgment/decisions.

Based on the single camera in the windshield this is an Autopilot 1 car, not 2.x

You're right, I thought it was a different wheel set. That's inconvenient, I don't think they will ever improve Autopilot 1 anymore and the system is not upgradeable.

Tesla really should ditch the name autopilot as the car is clearly not capable of that nor quick enough to react to parked vehicles in the lane while adaptive cruise engaged...

Tesla has doubled down on Autopilot, both in the marketing name and by continuing to evolve it. There is no going back.
