BMW's Teases Next Move In The EV Segment, The iNEXT Concept

BMW has a new electric vehicle in the works. And it’s now provided the first official glimpse – limited though it may be – at how it will shape up.

Dubbed the BMW iNEXT, the new EV is set to enter production in 2021. And it promises to incorporate “all major areas of innovation in a road-ready vehicle.”

By that, we surmise the automaker means electric propulsion, (semi) autonomous capabilities, advanced safety systems, and the latest infotainment technologies. Unfortunately we don’t have much else to go on at the moment, and the solitary teaser image gives us very little.

Although I realize that in the USA - a station wagon is not a desired form anymore - even if I like them - FOR an EV - they at least make sense where the batteries can be placed BELOW the floor - and the car will still have cargo space - something the batteries tend to take up in Hybrids and others. I am old enough to also think of another possibility - the original VW van is a form where the Batteries could also be below the floor - and still have lots of room for "something else". After all - it is about time to admit that many cars just do not have enough back seat space for it anymore!

Are you kidding? :)
The station wagon is the second most popular style of car in the US, every SUV is one. You are right, having more space does allow for a larger battery, however battery density is already high enough to allow for a real world 300-mile range in a compact sedan. This combined with a comprehensive charging network provides a limit on how much large batter one really needs or wants as it sacrifices both the cost and the handling.

Lots of VW vans in Cali have now been converted to EVs. VW is coming out with the ID Buzz, and it's awesome dude! ;) Take that, BMW!

Hey, let's not rush that VW van - it's only been in development for 17 years.
