Germany Officially Declares War On Diesels

It’s open season on compression ignition vehicles in the Fatherland. The birthplace of the diesel engine now says German cities can implement diesel driving bans whenever, and wherever, they want.

The Friday ruling by the country’s top court comes after a lawsuit against Germany and four other European Union member states by the EU, the result of higher-than-allowed air pollution levels in numerous urban areas.

@fiftysix: You’ve already established your profound science illiteracy and your absolute ignorance on the Dieselgate scandal and its implications. That much is abundantly clear.

For readers who are interested in facts – yeah, I know that’s not you or other Daffies – here are some things you can research to get an accurate understanding of emissions:

- Get into the DETAILs (and not just the soundbites) of the Dieselgate scandal. You’ll learn that virtually all of the sound bites are factually incorrect, or they provide a misleading picture.

- Look at *actual* tailpipe emissions for MODERN diesel passenger vehicles – those with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid system) – and compare them to gasoline cars. You’ll be shocked by what you see! Gasoline cars are NOT the clean alternative diesel-haters would like you to believe.

- The science tells us that MODERN, properly-functioning diesels produce about the same NOx (out the tail-pipe, real world) as an equivalent gasoline car. NOx are oxides of nitrogen, a toxic gas that’s harmful to air-breathers like us.

- Older diesel cars and light trucks continue to cause serious air pollution. These vehicles don’t have the DPF or DEF. They were built before these regulations took effect, and/or under the lies of manufacturers who lied about emissions, and who said “they’re fine.” VW is one of them. There are others.

- Diesel busses, trucks (not “light trucks”), trains, and huge boats are often not governed by the same emission laws as passenger cars. They continue to be a serious emission and health problem.

- The science tells us that diesels produce much less CO2 than gasoline engines. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, and human-caused CO2 emissions are a huge part of human-caused global climate change. Mind you, Daffies are science illiterate. They don’t believe in climate change. Or facts.

That’s the science. These are the facts. Meanwhile, Daffies and other science illiterate folks don’t care about facts or science. They have their own beliefs. Facts and science just get them angry, because they deprive them of feeling good about themselves. See the derision and down-votes from Daffies, which support this statement.

You go @fiftysix! You got Stevie to write one of his ranting essays. Good job!

While the focus has been diverted to "dirty diesel", consider sucking on the exhaust of a gasoline powered car and see how that works for your health.

Y'know, once the "dirty diesel" bug is in your mind, you'll perceive any thought to the contrary to be a lie.

While I agree on many Points Steve has said - one he and everyone else forgets -is that PROGRESS continues to happen - and breakthroughs can happen at any time.

Yes - in the past - ICE engines - both gas and diesel - produced a LOT more emissions than they do today - and with new regulations in place - will ALL have to be cleaner in the future - and so far - the manufacturers have managed - when they are not trying to break the law - to meet the newest standards. I note that in at least one area of the US Northwest - they largest polluter of Carbon emissions is PINE TREES.

As long as the price of Diesel Fuel remains low in Europe - there will enough people in the emerging economies that cannot afford gas prices two times higher. They cannot raise the Diesel Price because of trucking. ANd that is still where cars will be sold.

Pfft, you guys can say what you want. I'm keeping my diesel and enjoying the premium gas mileage and power that I'm getting over your piddly hybrids which are twice as dirty because of that corrosive excuse of a battery.

You can pry my diesels from my cold, dead hands. BTW, 'libtards' hate diesel and embrace electric. Get your facts straight.

@Aspy11. You are correct Sir. CO2 is not a pollutant, human's exhale it plants use it then expel oxygen. CO2 is an inert gas.
