Trump Launches Investigation To See If Imports Have Hurt The Detroit 3

President Donald Trump issued a tweet promising car manufacturers good tidings on Wednesday. “There will be big news coming soon for our great American Autoworkers,” he said. “After many decades of losing your jobs to other countries, you have waited long enough!”

Later that same day, the administration announced it had launched a national security investigation into car and truck imports under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. The Commerce Department explained that the probe would investigate whether imported vehicles and parts threaten the domestic industry’s wellbeing, taking into account its ability to develop new technologies and the impact of tariffs.

the Detroit 3 hurt themselves. Bad quality, reliability, resale, management, leadership, investments, etc. Imports found a good business model and took advantage of it and people voted w/ their dollars. It actually help the domestic build better POS. if it wasn't for competition..we would still drive POS made in the USA crap!

lets spend more money to create a narrative that doesn't exist to justify his fake position on defending America. Hypocrite to the nth degree. America has the choice to buy foreign owned or domestic product. Be happy you have a choice.

Waste of time. If we build a wall around imports, other countries will do the same and we'll be in a worse position than before. As long as the trade deals are balanced and reciprocated, we shouldn't be putting in place protectionism.

As the numbers indicate, this is about all the jobs the Detroit 3 have shifted out of the US. Foreign cars makers have been the ones adding jobs in the US.

This crap has nothing to do with reality. All of a sudden the free(ish) market doesn't matter, government interference is needed here??
It's all about Iran and how the Mafia worked: Create a violent threat to pressure people, in this case the Europeans in order to pressure them to unilaterally dump the Iran agreement because, you know, it was Obama's and, worse, working.
And this is such bullshit: Luxury marques wouldn't care, their customers less so. Mass market marques would have the result of telling American consumers to go fuck themselves. Wonderful. Then again, no good can be expected from this administration -- and we're getting none.
