Acura Targets The Europeans With 2019 RDX - Do They Stand A Chance?
Acura hopes to woo buyers of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes GLC and Volvo XC60 to its third-gen RDX.

“Those four brands really resonate with (luxury buyers we surveyed) as sort of the benchmarks, or what they consider to be the exciting vehicles,” Gary Robinson, senior manager-product planning for American Honda, tells media here May 22 at a ’19 RDX preview.

The new RDX is hot but the Q5, GLC and the NX are also hot. Will see at the end of year who will sell more. They are all selling at an average of 4000+/month.

I agree with you that the NX is garbage but here in FL they are selling since they are giving them away for $299 leases.

The new RDX is much more competitive than the previous model, despite the previous model is doing very well in sales. This segment right now is probably the most competitive in the market with 5 models all pretty close in sales volumes (GLC, Q5, NX, RDX and X3). A lot will depend on prices/lease numbers. I think we will see the X3 bring up the rear of this pack as it is just not as nice as the rest.

Acura is being aggressive by having the most standard power in the class and offering A spec and a very compelling price.

Let's see the battle of the lease payments play out! I think the RDX will be a strong contender but not if they play the crap lease game like Honda did with the Accord

To this point Acura has been heavily subsidized with cash on the hood.

Honda still has the capability of making superior cars - and Acura sells in the Lexus category - 2nd tier luxury. However - the Lexus will still sell well - but the Acura will be a hit too

#1 There are no "tiers"

#2 Hondas are no longer superior as they once were. They are more or less the average expectation of the industry.

#3 There's more than one Lexus.

#4 There's more than one Acura.

@MDarringer, absolutely correct. Such lazy comparison for TomM to generalize a brand with tier, so by that definition, BMW 320/328 CLA/GLA/C is tier one and Lexus GS, LS, LX, LC is tier 2. Smart.

For the first time in a long time, Acura has a vehicle that can win over competitors from all continents. The new RDX has the interior and exterior styling and the specs to gp toe to toe with anyone in the segment.

Is the RDX doing well? In any market? Competing against anyone? It's not exactly a hot seller, nor is it the "it" car, against whom everyone is measured.

Quite possibly the most hotly contested segment in the industry right now, in the US. GLC, Q5, NX, X3, and RDX all sell in great numbers and none are truly "duds" in any way. Actually, you can add the XT5 to that mix as well. The RDX will more than hold its own while it may not lead the segment as it once did. But it won't be last either.

XT4 will probably better compete than XT5. GLC is the one to beat now, although I'm impressed with 2018 X3. NX is now the oldest going in its 4th year, so I think it will continue to go down from here. QX50 is also hot and don't forget Volvo as well.

This is the idiocy of Cadillac. They are trying to price the XT5 at a level with the GLE and X5 group. The XT4 will be priced at or above the RDX/GLC/X3 segment while being substantially smaller. Dumb. Just dumb.

@cidflekken A-G-R-E-E Then you factor in how small the XT5 is for its price and a $10K price cut to the base model is the only logical solution. The XT4 should be even lower.

I'd banish Buick to China and let Cadillac inherit the Buick segment up.
