Are Heavy Discounts Or The Record Economy Fueling The Booming Truck Market?

Are Heavy Discounts Or The Record Economy Fueling The Booming Truck Market?

Heavy discounts of up to $16,000 per vehicle are fueling a truck war among full-size pickups sold in the United States by the Detroit 3, a Reuters analysis shows.

Strong U.S. sales this year of the highly profitable big pickups have helped offset lagging passenger car sales.

But it is not clear how much of the truck demand is linked directly to ample factory incentives and dealer discounts, or how far sales might decline without those subsidies.

Both plus broader cultural acceptance of pickups being cool.

Both. The discount makes the truck more attainable and Trump's economy is instilling confidence in people. Do people need that much vehicle? Nope. But oh well.

Trump's economy? Give me a break. The economy was on a 6 year rise when he took office. Nothing he has done has had a real effect on the economy. The first year of any presidency is on the previous president's budget. Drumpf's budget is just being implemented and will grow deficits dramatically, increasing interest rates, causing a recession.

The SUVS madness is the reason. For $40-60k, you can get a nice compact to medium SUV. Or you can a full size truck!

If these auto makers were smart they'd take some of the out-sized profits on these dinosaurs and invest in the vehicles that will drive profits in future years, but GM has never done that and they sure aren't going to start now. I give Ford a puncher's chance. Dodge employees are in a room somewhere trying to figure out how to put an 800 hp engine int.

carloslassiter, you have to make money to invest in the future and have enough cash on hand to get through the next downturn. GM is on the second generation Volt (which Honda just imitated with the Clarity) and has been delivering $35 EVs named Bolt for nearly two years while Tesla just keeps talking.

MDaranged, falling for what bait. What has Trump actually done for the economy and what is the result in specifics? Don't just espouse insults like your toddler president. None of you can name one specific thing he has done to create the current economic environment that was not already in place before he was falsely put in office.
"Hey, that guy from that there reality show says he is making America great again, um so he must be, eh?" Give me FACTS or do not respond

Thankfully Truth - MDarringer responds proving he is just like Donald Trump - offering NOTHING but manufactured lies. The fact is - indeed - we are nearing the end of a long Economic recovery that indeed started and did well in the previous administration - and the current administration has failed in its policies regarding trade - and ESPECIALLY in Energy production. One must remember that it was not until Trump was elected that OPEC started to reduce production to increase prices- and I see no response of value from the currently in office.

Now - to the real question of the thread - Trucks and Crossovers have become the NEW FAMILY CAR -because they have more room inside than other vehicles. Example - when FORD went to FORD ONE and brought over all those little European Boxes - the cars from Europe are smaller (Due to gas prices) than here - and americans simply did not want these tiny little cars that much. THAT plus the demise of the true Full SIZE American Car (THE last Taurus - based on an old Volvo Platform actually had less room than a mid-size Fusion) - FCA essentially did nothing to update its offerings other than adding a HEMI - the styling is old and long in the tooth - People Migrated to Trucks - and it will take a major change for that to reverse.

@Truthy: You're bringing facts to a Trumpflake Fight. You'll be outmatched by their denial, deflection, derision, and stupidity. I found that a powerful motivator not to engage with Flat Earthers, Creationists, Conspiracy Theorists, the Fact-Averse, and other variants of Trumpflakes.

"Donald Trump, champion and avatar of the shallow state, has won power because his supporters are threatened by what they don't understand, and what they don't understand is almost everything. Indeed, from evolution to data about our economy to the science of vaccines to the threats we face in the world, they reject vast subjects rooted in fact in order to have reality conform to their worldviews. They don't dig for truth; they skim the media for anything that makes them feel better about themselves. To many of them, knowledge is not a useful tool but a cunning barrier elites have created to keep power from the average man and woman."

MDaranged, once again you have no facts, only insults. A lot like that guy who is soon to be impeached. Sad.

Truthy: Although impeachment hearings *might* take place, in the words of Rudolf Hess, "The Führer is The Party; The Party is The Führer." Even if the Democrats have a sweeping victory this fall, we'd still need a fair number of Trump Party members to vote "guilty," should impeachment ever happen.

Seeing The Party as it is today, that's hard for me to picture. This is the face of America today.

TheSteve, a simple majority is all that is required in impeachment proceedings in the house. To remove the criminal from office is the bigger hurdle, requiring 67 votes in the senate, and to your point the current crop of republicans put party above country, unlike those with integrity during the Nixon era.

@Truthy: Today, there is no Republican Party. That's gone. What we have in its place is The Trump Party. That's a big distinction, and I'm sure it's a wake-up call for True Republicans who voted for the party, and who are now sickened by what America is enduring.

We do indeed live in "interesting times" (reference to the Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times").

'Merka is the place where The President calls America's Nazis "fine people", The Trump Party is complicit in his criminal activity, a legions of Faithful Devotees follow blindly in messianic manner, and nations that used to be America's dearest allies see it as The League of Idiots. The world watches as America flails, making enemies of allies, and forging alliances with despots, Russian oligarchs, and dictators.

This is the face of America :_(

TheSteve, your comments are spot on. The republicans did this to themselves as they embraced their fringe supporters (i.e. - tea party) which then became the base as a racist response to a black president. The SCOTUS decision to allow unfettered amounts of money into the election system exacerbates the bipolar politics of today.
