Study Reveals Almost Every UK Diesel On The Road Is Over Emissions Limits
A new independent testing initiative has found almost all diesels on the road are going over EU limits.

Diesels are "systematically"  releasing high amounts of nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere during real-world driving despite cars meeting the latest European regulations on emissions.

That’s according to scientists from the International Council on Clean Transportation, an independent nonprofit based in Berlin, which has released the first results of a new initiative that it has conducted with a range of other organisations, including the FIA Foundation.

The Real Urban Emissions Initiative (True) has today made public a ratings system that it says reflects real-world NOx emissions, and rates cars using a green/yellow/red (good/moderate/poor) scheme to reflect the levels of pollution.

AutoSpies reported this information back in late 2015, shortly after Dieselgate blew its lid in September 2015. These findings were across numerous brands, numerous models.

What ISN'T making the rounds, was the UK government found the same to be true of "petrol" (gasoline) cars. Only a handful of *exceptions* produced emission levels within lab-legal limits. This fact quickly got lost in the focus on Dieselgate, and led the fact-challenged portion of the public to embrace the belief that diesel is "dirty" and gasoline is "clean."

Gaming emissions regulations is an industry-wide phenomenon.

Steve beat me to it. The exact same thing happens with gas powered cars. Nothing to see here. Move along...

The fact remains - there is NO ON THE ROAD legal limit in the USA or in Europe. THERE are limits based on tests with controlled conditions that can be duplicated for all tested vehicles.

THese "articles" are simply trying to claim that the cars should be able to reproduce the in house controlled results in the real world - DREAM ON

TomM, thanks for highlighting (or alluding to) some important points, which are often missed:

1) Today's emissions laws apply to a specific lab-only scenario. Pass those tests without using a "cheat device" (as defined by law), and document all "exceptions" (as defined by law, and which are acceptable by law), an your vehicle is legal for sale.

2) There are no laws today about real-world vehicle emissions.

3) While news stories point out that real-world emissions almost always exceed the lab-legal levels (in nearly all vehicles!), they consistently omit to mention that this is NOT ILLEGAL! In fact, they often spin and hype their story to imply that this is unlawful. The fact is it's not illegal to produce any amount of real-life emissions, so long as you lawfully pass the lab-only test.

4) Automakers design their vehicles to pass the lab-only test. That's all they're required to do by law. So it shouldn't surprise anyone that (a) they pass the lab test and (b) real world emissions are wildly different in almost all vehicles.

5) A number of European nations have concluded that (a) the lab-only emissions test is woefully inadequate at simulating real-world conditions, and (b) it's important to establish a reproducible test that closely reflects the real world, so that the numbers you see in the lab should be "fairly representative" of numbers you could realistically attain in the real world. They are working aggressively to establish a new testing methodology that will allow this.

Until then... it is what it is.

Cough! Cough!
I'd say something if I wasn't choking on this shite ALL THE FOKKEN TIME!

In the meantime currently 31% of electricity generation in the UK is renewable with 51% classified as low carbon. 0% from coal and petroleum.

vdiv: I was about to call BS, until I looked into your numbers. They seem to be pretty close to the figures I'm seeing from a variety of sources. Kudos to the UK for working to clean up emissions, greenhouse gases, and move towards more sustainable energy sources!

Meanwhile, on this side of the pond, Fearless Leader, his Party, and his Devotees believe that "clean" coal and Big Oil are the way to go, and that human-made climate change is a scam perpetrated by the Chinese. No, I'm not kidding :-/

Even the oil-rich Saudis are working hard to transition their economy off oil, ASAP. Evidently, Fearless Leader and Klan didn't get the memo.

DIesel in passenger cars had been a flawed technology from the beginning. The EU governments have condoned and subsidized this technology to give European automakers an edge over asian competition which would eat their lunch in efficient low cost gasoline vehicles.

TheSteve: Climate Change has been happening forever. Since the world came into being it has not been 70 degrees, sunny, and no humidity every day. In other word, every day is different.

One more thing. One time the earth flooded for 40 days and 40 nights. Genesis 5:30 - 10:1
Study this. Climate change was never mentioned

Wait, are you saying climate change isn’t real because they don’t talk about it in the Bible?

Actually, the latest wrinkle in climate change research say that it's due to the speed at which the earth spins in slowing down.

JR: Climate change is a term mfg. by the left. It is not mentioned in the Bible because the Bible is 100% Truth.

800: I do know the difference. Stop spreading fake news.
