Google To Limit Use Of It's AI Intellegence When Protecting Troops In Combat
Google will not allow its artificial intelligence software to be used in weapons or unreasonable surveillance efforts, the Alphabet Inc unit said Thursday in standards for its business decisions in the nascent field.

The new restrictions could help Google management defuse months of protest by thousands of employees against the company's work with the U.S. military to identify objects in drone video.

Google will pursue other government contracts including around cybersecurity, military recruitment and search and rescue, Chief Executive Sundar Pichai said in a blog post Thursday.

Google benefits, prospers and is protected by being domiciled in America but refuses full cooperation of the US military because of its employees. Shame on Google and its employees. They just don't get it do they.

One of the best ways to protect is firepower. It seems they prefer to focus on rescue after the fact. The technology is invaluable, but how do you draw a line in the sand?

Google isn't the only game in town. There are others including independent research facilities that could take on the challenge, not to mention internal government facilities. Probably better done by the latter as anything done at Google would end up leaked to the wrong people.

Wow, fake news headline. Way to spin the meaning of an article into crackpot territory. The actual article headline is "Google bars uses of its artificial intelligence tech in weapons". And a quote from Google: ""We want to be clear that while we are not developing AI for use in weapons, we will continue our work with governments and the military in many other areas..."

Agreed, it is a misleading to get clicks and appeal to those who act more on emotion than reasoning, like our president.

Actually it is 100% true. Defense of troops requires weapons, Google won't be a part of that, however they will allow use of their technology to assist the rescue of survivors. They have drawn a line. We aren't saying that it is correct or not, but there is a line.

100% true? As if the only purpose of weaponry is to protect troops. That's a pretty one-sided way of viewing it. The primary purpose of weaponry is to kill other people. Just because Google has the technological capacity to make killing easier doesn't mean they're obliged to develop that technology and sell it to the government.

Google is not the only supplier out there for AI software - and I guarantee that There are already weapons out there that use such software for guidance. The question would be - what does GOOGLE have that only GOOGLE has - NOTHING. Imagine a world where only CHINA gets to use GOOGLE AI for its weapons systems because they will not recognize GOOGLE copyrights.
