Porsche Says They Will Concentrate On Making The Mission E A Porsche, Not A Tesla Killer
Porsche is still gradually marketing its Mission E electric vehicle a full year ahead of going into production.

Stefan Weckbach, Head of the BEV Model Series at Porsche, has now taken a few people to get test drives in the Mission E Cross Turismo in California and commented on the German automaker’s plans.

They brought the prototype of the CUV version of the Mission E to Malibu for some test drives.

Indeed a Porsche should be a Porsche but this probably means it will cost 2X the price of a Tesla. Nevertheless, Audi is the VWAG brand that should battle Tesla and they will do so decisively.

@fiftysix I agree that Tesla's build quality is horrific, but was referring to the sticker prices that the gullible pay without thinking because when you pay full asking price and don't negotiate, that is soooooo much better for the consumer.

Well - they can Hardly make it a Tesla - it is likely to be in full production soon after it is introduced. Who would want to mimic the Tesla production efficiencies!

You guys are a hoot driving around in your Kias and Chevy Bolts posting anti-Tesla propoganda. Skoda!

Nothing wrong with Škoda, they take a run of the mill VW, make it better and sell it for less. They also had their own models, the Yetti was awesome and VW has promptly killed it, replacing it with the derivative MEB based Karoq.

The sad thing is that a $150K Model X/S has worse build quality than that Kia or Chevy Bolt. Yes Tesla has some cool technology with autopilot (when the driver is paying attention), the touchscreen and their drivetrain, but the big problem is that their build quality is horrible, and is especially unacceptable considering the price points of their vehicles.
The initial Porsche EV will probably be priced a good bit higher than Model X/S...but Tesla better watch out when that tech trickles down to Audi which will probably price very close to Tesla X/S and to VW which will price close to the Model 3/Y

An issue for Tesla will be how does the wealthy "I want to be seen" crowd respond to the Porsche entry. For them Tesla may be passe and the Porsche the new in thing. That will hurt Model S and X sales. The Porsche will do well as a Porsche.

That's exactly what will happen.

I am glad that Porsche did not decide to benchmark themselves against Tesla.

That is good, because a Performance Model 3 matches the current specs with performance and range.

Sure will not compete and sales will be much lower.

Most of you don't understand why people buy a Tesla. They love the brand. They don't want a Porsche or a Benz. They want a Tesla. The user experience is completely different. They are the most satisfied group of owners in the industry. Tesla has no reason to fear Porsche or any other brand. Their only fear should be getting production up to scale and quality up. I'm confident they'll do both.

BTW - I think the Taycan is going to be awesome! Porsche will have no problem selling each and every one they make. It's definitely a car I will consider.

For a brand that you guys regularly pan, Tesla sure does seem to have captured the attention of Porsche management.

I don't care for the name, but I believe Porsche will provide a compelling alternative to Tesla's Model S, especially if they're priced reasonably close. With the Porsche, you'll get superior build quality, a more luxurious interior, something that drives like a Porsche, and a delivery date that's reasonable.

I think the Mission E/Tincan will be the most compelling Model S competitor so far. The iPace is also nice, but that is more in the Model X category.
