It's Official, The US Is No Longer The Driving Force In The Automotive Market
When the head of China's largest ride-hailing company, Didi Chuxing, took the stage in April ahead of the Beijing auto show, the event unfolded as a warning shot to the rest of the world.

CEO Cheng Wei said the company was bringing together 31 eager automotive suitors, including global heavyweights Toyota, Volkswagen and the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, to tackle one of the hottest issues: developing cheap, electrified vehicles and new mobility technologies for the world's biggest auto market.

And to think, not too long ago, The USA was the undisputed automotive world leader :-/

The mighty do fall. Even the mightiest, the apparently unshakable, do not last forever.

As much as I'm not an "American car fan," it saddens me when I see what has become of the former leaders. When I drive through Detroit and Michigan, and see what looks like a domestic Beirut of derelict building and virtual industrial ghost towns, it brings a tear to eye. In a way, it reminds me of the decline of The Roman Empire: At one time, the greatest and most glorious superpower on Earth... eventually... a shadow of its former self.

The U.S.A isn't a driving force for anything. The U.S.A is old and run down. Our roads resemble 3rd World Country Roads with all the potholes. Our Airports are all old and look ancient when compared to other countries. We have no high-speed rail while Japan just celebrated its 40th anniversary having high-speed rail. We don't have the tallest skyscrapers (Tallest bldg in the USA is 10th overall). And when I went to Jamaica the "Highway 2000" was nicer than any highway I've ever been on in the U.S.A. We are seriously behind because we were tricked into believing that giving everything to the wealthy would fix everything.

@LexSucks re "The U.S.A isn't a driving force for anything..."

I call BS! The USA leads in the following areas, and more:

- Unwanted teenage pregnancy rate in industrialized nations (I hear it drops way off after a female turns 20)

- Per-capita death by firearm, in at-peace industrialized nations. This is true, even when excluding deaths causes by Peace Officers acting in the line of duty.

- Most lawyers per capita. By far! More than the next 5 nations combined!

- The most nuclear weapons yield (AKA Ability to destroy the world the most times over)

- Most prescription-drug addicted nation on the planet (no qualifiers needed)

- Incarcerates more of its people than any other nation, even repressive totalitarian regimes like China, North Korea, and Russia. In the US, nearly 1% of the population is behind bars. Kinda weird for this to apply to "The Land of The Free."

So buddy, when someone says to you "USA is not No.1", you can show them how wrong they are.

This is actually good news, Chinese are no different, prefer imports. And American cars that are made in USA are highly valued there.

This article is likely the most important one ever put on Autospies. This is a window into a seismic shift in the automotive world that will continue to play out for decades to come.

MDarranged, republican policies give you red states like Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas with horrible education and healthcare, high teenage pregnancy rates.
Democratic states tend (statistics, look it up) to have much better education, lowere teen pregnancy rates, higher percentage college attendance. I believe Drumpf famously said, "I love the uneducated." Sure they are his base. If they were educated and knew how to read he would lose raging base.
I travel extensively and have worked with people from all over the world and they would love to live in the US.
Japan has a high-speed rail system? Most people also live in small apartments and travel over an hour to work in a crowded train to work 12 hour days.
I have driven on pristine highways in the US (the roads would be better if the republicans stopped cutting infrastructure spending to give tax breaks to the investment class). The US leads the world in areospace - the 787 Dreamliner is the best airplane in the world by far - technology - think Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, IBM, etc.
Culture - the world clamors for US music, movies, books.
As for cars, China is buying more cars as there are over a billion people there. However, they are buying on average less expensive cars.
Need more - the US is still nearly a quarter of the global economy.
