Tesla On The Verge Of Making Autopilot A REAL Autopilot

It took Tesla almost two years, but the electric car maker is finally on the verge of releasing software Version 9. According to Elon Musk in a recent announcement on Twitter, Tesla would start rolling out firmware V9 in August. Musk also noted that the release of Version 9 would herald the release of the company’s first Full Self-Driving features.

Musk’s most recent announcement came as a response to one of his followers on Twitter, who asked about upcoming improvements to the driver-assist system’s lane merging capabilities. Responding to the inquiry, Musk stated that the latest version of Autopilot rolling out today already includes enhancements in the electric cars’ lane-keeping features. Musk added a little extra, however, stating that Tesla’s V9 software would include the introduction of the company’s first FSD features.

Let me guess, fine print says your hands must be on the steering wheel at all times.

More Con from Elon.

Poor sad Chevy marketing employee can never seem to get any headlines for the $37,000 dumpy city-car Bolt.

Absolutely 0 has changed in what Tesla was advising, previously there were no firm expectations of when FSD (full self driving) functionality would be released. People selecting the feature get a warning saying it requires government approval, etc. I thought it would be ~2 years from now at best, so it will be interesting to see which features are released.

The lawsuit was NOT related to full self driving functionality. It was related to how long it took to get Autopilot 2.0 features on part with Autopilot 1.0 cars on Mobileye hardware.

Based on Tesla's track record of hype and claims, I'm skeptical.

Oh, also based on reports of collisions and mishaps caused by TODAY's "Autopilot", I'm also skeptical that they're anywhere close to legitimate, safe, reliable Level-5 autonomy.

You don't get to land on the moon when you still haven't figured out how to make a reliable glider.

God help us all! Maybe we should ask Pope Francis to have someone in the Vatican update the prayer of St. Christopher (i.e. the prayer for travelers!) to include a reference for keeping us safe from Tesla's on Autopilot....

'Dear Saint Christopher, protect me today in all my travels along the road’s way.
Give your warning sign if danger is near so that I may stop while the path is clear. Be at my window and direct me through when the vision blurs from out of the blue. Carry me safely to my destined place, like you carried Christ in your close embrace.' Amen.

Apologies in advance for the religious reference if I have offended anyone! :-)

LOL at the TROLL

Your anger and bitterness does not change the fact that Tesla has gone from an idea to a force in the auto industry in less than 10 years.

@joneshamilton I think he means a force like the one inside an intestine after eating 6 bad fish tacos with the room temperature salsa and guac on Taco Tuesday down at the bowling alley.

I just don't get all of the Tesla hate, it's not like the guy is building generic, boring vehicles without any creativity whatsoever. He's done more in a decade than most companies could only dream of, look at Mitsubishi DOA. Geo? Dead. Scion? Even Acura and Infiniti are now also-rans.

It seems pretty clear - all these guys spewing hate work for competitors.

Only Tesla's seem to explode into fireballs when they get into accidents that breach the battery casings.

Also - Chevy Bolt's don't seem to accelerate into concrete barriers and violently kill the vehicle operator. Nissan Leaf's don't seem to do that either.

Nor do Volvo's and Mercedes and Cadillacs when their autonomous driving systems are engaged.

I think this is 'fact-based' commentary and not 'hate-speech'.

@joneshamilton Hell, I'll be a kneeling Tesla pleasure boy if cash is involved. Let's hope the rate is good.

What % of all articles on this are about Tesla?

Which company did the CEO of Porsche mention when introducing their new Taycan?

What other new entrant to the market has achieved anywhere near the success of Tesla in their first 10 years?

How many posts here are by guys whining about Tesla? Let me answer this one: Pretty much all of the ones that follow this post.
