Porsche Officially Names The Production Mission E As The Taycan

Porsche’s all-electric Mission E has officially been named ahead of production: Taycan. The long-awaited Tesla Model S rival was first introduced as a concept at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show and has since been confirmed for production. Porsche has also confired it plans to introduce a range of fully electric performance cars and SUVs alongside its conventional models, as well offering some of its sports cars with EV powertrains, including the next generation 911.

The confirmation of the Taycan name comes ahead of the car's 2019 launch and was announced by Porsche's CEO Oliver Blume at an event to mark the company's 70th anniversary. Earlier this year Porsche revealed its second electric vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show: the Cross Turismo Concept. This smaller, Macan sized concept is expected to go on sale in 2020 and will rival Jaguar's recently launched I Pace electric SUV.

Now that they spent all that money on the sign I guess there is no turning back from this loser name.

My grandfather's Cadillac Brougham had whitewalls as fat as that. I bet he would have loved the name.

What's with these automakers and their bizarre choices of names?

WTF is a Taycan?

Toucan - a bird? Tincan - an alley? Tay-cout - getting your meal 'to-go'? Taytertot - a french fry substitute?

[At least there are no slavery connotations - unlike Rolls-Royce which named their SUV 'Cullinan' that was a diamond mined (likely by slaves) in 1900 or so in South Africa and spirited away back to England once it was found.]

Just call it the Porsche Blitz and be done with it.

Blitz is 'lightning' in German and lightning is a form of electricity. Makes perfect sense

It will supposedly be pronounced "Tie-Con" when you enter the dealership. I would tell the sales guy that for the sake of this transaction he has to call it the Mission-E or Panamera-E or no sale. Dumbest name ever.

Blitzkrieg is a Go!

Hey ho, let's go! hey ho, let's go!
Hey ho, let's go! hey ho, let's go!
They're forming in straight line
They're going through a tight wind
The kids are losing their minds
The blitzkrieg bop
They're piling in the back seat
They're generating steam heat
Pulsating to the back beat
The blitzkrieg bop
Hey ho, let's go
Shoot'em in the back now
What they want, I don't know
They're all revved up and ready to go

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Funny!

If Taycan (i.e. Tie - Con) wasn't such an absurd name, we wouldn't be having all the fun at Porsche's expense.

They can have Ty Cobb serve as celebrity spokesperson for the Tie-Con. Then we can all go to the pub and tie one on.

Could have been worse, they could have called it the Tuk-Tuk ;)

You know what? They're right. They should rename it something else because the Mission E is way better looking than this "Taycan".
