What's Of GREATER Importance To You? FIT & FINISH Or Pure, Unadulterated SPEED?
So, there I was tonight. Minding my own business. Watching America's Got Talent, paying a visit to my parents to make sure all is well, when I received a text from my ex.

"Uh oh," is what comes to mind.

But, I was awfully surprised and cheery. That's because I was presented with a vintage image of Enzo Ferrari. Looking quite dapper, one didn't know what was coming next.

That's because beneath the image, which is very much akin to a time warp, the following caption read:

"I don't care of the door gaps are straight. When the driver steps on the gas I want him to shit in his pants."

Given the image and caption, one can only surmise these were Enzo's words.

And, of course, this got me thinking a bit: How many of you ACTUALLY care about the fit & finish of a high-performance automobile? Do you simply want the speed and all else comes last? What say you, Spies?

Speed

Handling the first 10 minutes, NVH afterwards.

Go spend $300k+ of your own money on an exotic car and then ask yourself how important fit, finish, function and NVH are vs speed/handling on your way to work. I think you will find yourself to be pretty picky about any stitch that doesn't look right.

And yet, if you know history, you know that people are very much willing to overlook fit and finish and NVH for the sake of speed. Ferrari has been legendary for its shoddy workmanship in the past but people bought them for speed. Ditto Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Jensen, TVR, Jaguar,...

Ultimately, I think it comes down to the specific owner.

Some owners really don't care while others are neurotic.

@MD. Your answer would have been correct in 1990, but not today. Everything needs to work, be perfectly made and be as reliable as a Toyota Corolla all year long.

@canadian Ummm...NO Exotic cars are still relatively unreliable vis a vis mainstream cars, so quality is NOT job one.

@MD I will concede the point and admit there is more work to be done by a lot of brands, but I have not seen videos of burning Lexus LFA's on the side of the road like the Italian brands. #toyotaforlife

Aston Martin has persistent reliability issues.

Lamborghini tends to have electrical issues.

When I buy something I just want to feel like the person who built it gave a crap.

You need a Kia.

For *ME*, it's fit and finish. That's what I live with each time I drive the car, each time I look at my car, each time I wash my car.

In my motorcycling days, I took it (and held it) to the redline in top gear only a couple of times in all my years of riding. The theoretical top speed is the "nice to have" that you can feel good about, but never use.

Still: To each their own. What you like is what you value.

Most high-performance cars never get used anywhere near their potential. So speed is becoming less and less relevent. And it's way more fun to drive at the limit than to never get even close to it.

Top speed is irrelevant but a short 0-60 will always be desirable.

Where did you get this BS from: "And it's way more fun to drive at the limit than to never get even close to it"?

An engine screaming at 7500 RPM is your idea of magic nirvana?

Actually today -you can get cars that offer BOTH. The problem is - pure SPEED has progressed well beyond the ability of most drivers to be able to take advantage of it - when a second Tier Ferrari can ONLY go 198MPH - oh dear.
