AWESOME or AWFUL: Where Do YOU Stand On Authorities Destroying Private Property For The Greater Good? Are They JUSTIFIED?
At the risk of dating myself here, I'll do it anyway.

For those of you who have seen the movie Backdraft, this shouldn't come as much of a surprise. But, if left with no other avenue to make a connection to a fire hydrant, firefighters have no problem busting a parked car's windows and running the hose through the interior of a vehicle. The expense of an automobile simply doesn't matter.

That's because if you've illegally parked in front of a hydrant and there's an inferno, only one thing has value: Life.

Having said that, it seems that there's really two sides of this type of situation. Those who write it off as excessive and those who see it as not excessive enough.

So, where do YOU stand? Do you side with authorities, like firefighters, being able to destroy private property for the greater good if it breaks the law? OR, do you think there's a better way to work around these problems?

...Firefighters responding to a house fire on Norway Avenue in the Mercer County town were forced to smash two of the car's windows to extend a hose through the Acura and gain access to a hydrant.

"This is what happens when you park in front of a hydrant," the Hamilton Township Professional Firefighters wrote in a Facebook post above a photo showing the hose running in to the passenger's side window and out the driver's side window.  "Reminder, it is against the law to park in front of a fire hydrant..."

Let the building burn down to save an illegally parked clunker? No. How is that even a question? If you really want to focus on government abuse of private property, then let's talk property seizures. Attorney General Sessions greenlighted more civil asset forfeitures against people only suspected of a crime and not charged. Even Darrell Issa, said “Criminals shouldn’t be able to keep the proceeds of their crime, but innocent Americans shouldn’t lose their right to due process, or their private property rights, in order to make that happen.” Now, that's government overreach.

THe government has the power of Eminent Domain - where - it can take real property (Not just land) - from people - although the must supply proper compensation. The Jersey shore is replete with such actions where the Government took property from older owners - and then resold it to a developer for higher taxed development - and there is NOT A THING you can do to stop it.

In this case - while the Government is legally bound to compensate the owner of the car for damage inflicted - unless another law covers the action - they are withing their right to actually saw the car in half if they need to.

They are 100% justified in smashing the windows of some monkey who parked in front of a hydrant if they need to do so to save a building. It might be a little messed up if they smashed the windows for no reason.

Fine with that.
Would be a pity if those tubes leaked.
Not.

An ancient RL. The firefighters did an additional public service besides putting out the fire. Hope they flooded the vehicular disgrace in the process.
Besides, this was in New Jersey, home of the worst drivers outside the Third World. Trashing the car could only have helped.
