Whitehouse, Automakers, And California To Meet Before Rolling Back Obama MPG Rules

Whitehouse, Automakers, And California To Meet Before Rolling Back Obama MPG Rules
White House officials will have a new round of meetings with a trade group for automakers and California's "clean air" agency next week before unveiling a proposal to reverse rules aimed at increasing fuel efficiency, participants said on Thursday.

The rules, negotiated with automakers by President Barack Obama's administration in 2011, aimed to double average fleet-wide fuel efficiency to about 50 miles per gallon by 2025 and included significant annual increases in automaker requirements.

The best thing that could happen to this country is that OPec continues to cut back on oil production forcing the price of gasoline to average over $5.00 a gallon. Then we need a 50 cent tax on gas on top of that. That will force people out of Silverados, Expeditions into smaller vehicles that get better gas mileage. You would actually be able to see vehicles in parking lots that properly fit in a parking spaces.

Destroying the economy would be the best thing that could happen? Really? What is your basis for dictating to people what they should be allowed to own and drive?

Such meetings are pointless when they are not in good faith.

We have The Environmental Protection Agency, whose new direction is to support business and the fabulously wealthy by rescinding anti-pollution laws and anything that's good for The Common American. We know that all government climate change research has been halted. Official government doctrine says no statements come out mentioning human-caused climate change. Fuel economy regulations are being rescinded. That's your Environmental "Protection" Agency at work :-/

The EPA is headed by Scott Pruitt, an unabashed climate change denier, pro-business, anti-environment guy, who is personally under no less than a dozen investigations for wrongdoing, breaking laws, and abuse of power.

And we have a federal Party in power that believes in "clean coal", climate change was made up by the Chinese, it's okay to throw 12 million people off health care, give hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks to the super rich, and tack on $1.5 trillion dollars of additional debt onto ordinary Americans' backs.

Hmmm. Sounds good so far, right?

Then we have California, who is working aggressively to reduce pollution, and live more sustainably. Have they been perfect in each endeavor? Hell no! But miss the fact that they're working really hard to clean up their act, and you miss the relevant part of the story.

How could this NOT succeed, right? ;-)

Watch for yet more White House "great deal" spin, and blaming California, Hillary, Obama, Democrats, etc. Trumpists in charge; every problem is someone else's fault.

This is the face of America today.

Why do you IMMEDIATELY assume the worst? Oh that's right because you just want to continue your Alt-Left bashing. Clearly California feels there is a reason to be at the table. California would not have agreed to participate were it not for the potential for this to work. Stop being such an ideologue.

.......it's okay to throw 12 million people off health care, give hundreds of billions of dollars in tax breaks to the super rich, and tack on $1.5 trillion dollars of additional debt onto ordinary Americans' backs.........

Do you get the Daily Feed of DNC talking points or the condensed weekly feed? If you want to be taken seriously you may want to research the actual facts first. NO ONE has been thrown off health care, the only change is the removal of the individual mandate which forced people to purchase health insurance, now they have choice to purchase it or not, thought liberalism was all about choice?

BTW Obama added approximately 10 trillion in additional debt during his 8 years in office. While Trump added 1.5 trillion in 1 1/2 years most was restoring cuts to the military from Obama, he has also grown the economy to 20 trillion. These things tend to happen when someone that actually accomplished something before they became President is elected as opposed to someone whose major accomplishment in life was getting elected and it is still that after he’ Left office.

We know that all government climate change research has been halted.

Steve: If you were keeping track of the climate everyday since DAY 1, You would know that climate change is constant.

Then we have California, who is working aggressively to reduce pollution, and live more sustainably. Have they been perfect in each endeavor? Hell no! But miss the fact that they're working really hard to clean up their act, and you miss the relevant part of the story.

Steve: Did you see the video of junkies in California throwing syringes everywhere and taking care of bathroom business out in clear view of the public? ..... and you say that California is working aggressively to reduce pollution, and live more sustainably.

Steve: Thank You For Reading My Post !!!

You have the same intelligence as the orange man baby President if you think cars would be as safe, as fuel efficient and last as long if there was no government oversight pushing the auto industry to a higher standard. Altruistic creations like seatbelts are too few and far between. You only have to see the recent results of the short offset crash with the Ford and FCA SUV's to know there is still a long way to go.

@CANADIANCOMMENTS: Big yup. Industry cares only about profit. That's the line of work their in. Remember the Ford Pinto, when Ford's internal folks figured it'll cost less money to settle lawsuits against them for wrongful death when people died in Pinto fired, vs the cost to correct the problem and prevent those deaths? It's just business.

Our history is peppered with examples of how business is NOT focused on public wellbeing. The dot-com crash, the financial meltdown (due to fraudulent practices and sub-prime mortgages). Lots more examples. Recent examples clearly show that just as soon as the EPA rescinded laws that made it illegal to dump toxic waste from the coal industry into water (thanks to Agent Orange), the coal industry resumed dumping toxic waste into water.

Only an idiot can't see this. That includes folks who believe that #45 is the best thing since Jesus, is an honest man, cares about America etc. Trumpflakes aren't very bright. That can't *see* the dots, let alone connect them.

This is the face of America :-(

Profit is only Satan to Alt-Left, fascist socialists who are hell bent on destroying the economy because they think poverty is good for people. Often they are hypocrites because they have plenty of money.

CanadianComments: The Japanese auto industry interfered big time through competition and kicked Detroit's ass so bad that Detroit had to step up their game. Government isn't the answer for me but maybe it is for you.
