SPIED! BMW's New 8 Series Leaks Out Ahead Of Official Debut

Those of you hoping that the production version of the all-new BMW 8-Series wouldn’t stray too far from the Concept when it comes to looks, can finally rest easy.

Of course, the grille isn’t as massive, and the headlights aren’t as sleek, but those types of changes were to be expected. As for the rear, it almost looks like a more aggressive take on the 8 Series Concept’s tail-end.

Aside from the leaked images, courtesy of AutoReview, we also have an official video teaser from BMW themselves, as the Bavarian automaker prepares to race at Le Mans with two new M8 GTE cars. As for the road-going 8er, on their Facebook page, BMW simply states: “The all-new BMW 8 Series is coming tonight” – meaning we’re just hours away from the full unveiling.

Can you just rename the 6 the 8 and pretend like it's new?

The 8-series is a "me-too" car in a very weak (and tiny) segment - two door luxo-gran turismo coupes.

Somebody at BMW got their ego in a twist in an effort to get this car to production and I remain doubtful how this vehicle makes financial sense.

There are only so many folks in the demographic who have (a) MB S-class coupe; (b) Bentley Continental; (c) RR Wraith; (d) Ferrari Portofino; (e) Maserati Gran Turismo; (f) and perhaps a few Porsche's to choose from.

Silly - the 6-series was irrelevant and the 8-series may be even more irrelevant.

Plus a 4-series coupe may have a roomier back seat.

Then again, is good that BMW has high-end ambitions rather than just roll in the mud with the rest of the plebeians. ;)

Front end so watered down from concept design...looks to these old eyes as identical to 6 nose it replaces. Another opportunity lost by BMW to move design theme ahead.

I blame European pedestrian laws.

No way anyone would choose this over the LC500 or the S-Class Coupe, based on design. What a disappointment from the concept.

I completely agree. The LC500's concept should have clued BMW in to trying harder. When Lexus announced they were building the LC, that should have clued BMW in to trying harder. When the LC arrived, that should have clued BMW in to trying harder.

The LC is to today what the Jaguar E Type was to 1961.

The new 8-Series will have such few buyers that it will do little to help BMW's sales issues in the U.S. market. Furthermore, it doesn't help that people can't tell if it's a 4-Series or 8-Series coming at them from the front. BMW's aged interiors haven't changed.

This is a very bad move by BMW and the S-Class Coupe and Bentley Continental will ensure this new 8-Series is a non-factor in its segment.

Grumpy old men have money and still want to kick arse. Don't underestimate their purchasing power.

I have to agree with you on this one. The interior -specially this being an 8- is a complete fiasco. All in all this car pales in comparison with pretty much anything in that range.

4 series in fact looks more simplistic and nicer.
This new 8 looks porky, disproportionate, and banal.
BMW needs a new design director.

Have they seen the new Bentley Continental GT's interior? I'm a BMW guy. I was excited about the new M8.

Boring as hell to look at and would have been brilliant in 2008.

Who at BMW thought and who approved a counter clockwise, right to left reading tachometer???? What were they thinking or what were they drinking? For a hundred plus years we have been trained to read a tach needle moving left to right, its been ingrained in our brain and DNA for god sake! I've had enough of auto manufacturers who change proven effective consumer friendly designs for the sake of just being different. I wouldn't buy this car because I don't want to retrain my brain because some idiot designer in Germany dares to be different.

Could the M version have the Concept 8 face and rear? That would be it's only saving grace.

I'd say no chance of that.

Lol, why would anyone buy this when they could have a Tesla for the same price?

Better quality for one.
Better reliability for two.
Better safety for three.

The real question is what would anyone pay way more than the price of a 4 to get this? Of course, that was also true for the 6 but you still see a bunch on the road.

"a bunch"?? The 6 Series sold several notches below abysmally.
