Where Is A Cop When YOU Need One? What Things Should Cops Be Pulling People Over For But Don't?

Where Is A Cop When YOU Need One? What Things Should Cops Be Pulling People Over For But Don't?
Over the years I've racked up many, many miles. And with all that time on the road, more often than not, it seems like police officers just aren't around enough to catch people behaving badly behind the wheel.

As Agent 009 posted in an earlier story, an Indiana police officer went viral after pulling over a vehicle that was occupying the left lane and impeding traffic flow. According to the ticketing officer, about 20 vehicles were caught up behind the left lane hog.

This got me thinking: What are the things YOU see on the road that cops should be more vigilant of?

While I am sure a lot of folks notice a ton of texting while driving, I am interested to hear about what else is going on out there on the black top. Take, for example, overfilled cars. Lately I've been coming across a lot of vehicles on the New Jersey Turnpike that have more occupants than there are seat belts. It's a fatal accident just waiting to happen.

So, Spies, weigh in below. Let us know what cops should be more on top of when ticketing offenders.

Having had a 911 and a R8 rear-ended by a texting young female driver, they should pull over every girl under the age of 22 because here in NJ, everyone of them is texting while driving.

Wow, both your 911 and R8s were rear ended!?!

Talk about tough luck.

Hope you/your passengers weren't injured.

I wish the police would go Gestapo on phone users.

A bit of an aside, but I don't think police cars should ever be painted to be less noticeable (dark grey, blue or black with no markings). They are emergency vehicles. While this practice may be a help to write a ticket, the presence of a fully marked police car is enough to slow down traffic.

Completely agree.

I wrote a story about the "ghost" police vehicles a couple years back...

If policemen actually enforced EVERY law exactly as written - they may as well include entering the "ticket" line - every day - to every driver. I doubt anyone here would last a few miles.

The problem is - for every situation - asking "DRIVERS: what they think the police should do ALWAYS results with ONE ANSWER - GO AFTER THE OTHER GUY.

The Police really are not in favor of enforcement in that manner - there are not enough police to enforce in that manner - and SOMEHOW regardless - conditions may be required to be taken into account. The purpose is to maintain safety - and the use of warning CAN BE just as effective in many cases - and gets less other people involved. When breaking the law becomes obviously RECKLESS and DANGEROUS - enforcement is needed.

The improper use of lights, whether they are the turn signals, high beams or fog lights, especially the rear ones, drives me absolutely bonkers.

I second those who drive with their rear fog lights on a clear night. There are two types who do this. Those who don’t even know they have them, and those who are a total douche.

I had a quite positive experience once with HPD. A left lane hog was slowing down traffic, I down shifted my V8 M3 and passed pushing 75 MPH. I didn't see the HPD cruiser but he saw I slowed back down once passing and went about his business. I was impressed, a true peace officer.

I know this is hard to believe - but policemen are taught to try to keep the government out of things with a solution - rather than to give ticket - or arrest a person.
