Want To Buy An American Made Vehicle? Here Are Your Top 10 Choices

With the threat of tariffs looming, consumers could face higher costs for imported vehicles.

American-made vehicles are largely insulated from tariffs. But the key question is: What qualifies as American-made?

Automotive parts are often sourced throughout the world, making it difficult to ascertain what's truly made in the USA.

Here is the 2018 list (and where each vehicle is built):

1. Jeep Cherokee (Belvidere, Illinois)

2. Honda Odyssey (Lincoln, Alabama)

3. Honda Ridgeline (Lincoln, Alabama)

4. Ford Taurus (Chicago)

5. Chevrolet Volt (Detroit)

6. Honda Pilot (Lincoln, Alabama)

7. Acura MDX (East Liberty, Ohio)

8. Ford Explorer (Chicago)

9. Ford F-150 (Claycomo, Missouri, and Dearborn, Michigan)

10. Chevrolet Corvette (Bowling Green, Kentucky)

The "Panasonic hardware" is now built in the Gigafactory in Nevada including the battery cells. Mine that was built before the Gigafactory and according to the Monroney sticker still has 50% US parts with final assembly of the motors, differentials, inverters, chargers, and batteries in Fremont, CA.

I don't think any Mercedes parts are used in the 3, some still used in the S/X like the shifters.

If you go by assembly point within the 50 US states, you also have Subaru, VW, Mercedes, BMW, and I'm sure I've missed some.

No, I don't. I prefer the open market we've had for decades. Maybe Trump can drop our 25% tariff on vans and trucks if he's so interested in a level playing field. I bought a German car and have for years because that's what I want. If American manufacturers want to compete with Europe they'll have to make better products. That would truly level the playing field.

what we need is less govt regulation in trade. i don't need POTUS or SCOTUS adding state or federal taxes on products i want.

Business man? If he'd put the $400 million he inherited from daddy into a SP500 index fund rather than the string of failed casinos and third rate business ventures (Trump Univerity anyone?) he burnt through, he would be worth about $10 billion dollars now which is well above any estimate of his current net worth. Of course we don't know how much he's worth since he won't release his income taxes.

That's the problem, the USA is open to all, but other countries are RAPING our exports.

Factually false. US has a 25% tariff on imported vans and light trucks.

Sorry - but Trump is not a businessman - he is a DON (who wants to be adored)- something entirely different. He has hurt lots of people by going bankrupt on a regular basis - in many different businesses - starting with the Obvious one in Atlantic City.

Worse - he is NOT in charge - apparently - with Republican complete control of the Executive Branch - Control of the Senate and House - and a Majority on the Supreme court - Apparently the Democrats, Hillary and Obama STILL are the ones who control everything and are doing everything wrong. (THAT is according to Trump) and apparently the Republicans cannot muster a majority to overcome them.

Which also proves that Trump cannot count! (Some businessmen can actually do that one to the penny)

Trump is a one dimensional thinker as well. His burgeoning trade war shows his stupidity at its height. Just read today about a nail company in Missouri (America's largest nail producer - MidContinent) laying off 60 workers and contemplating up to 200 layoffs. It imports steel from Mexico and now because it's 25% more expensive, the company is losing business to foreign nail manufacturers who don't have to pay inflated prices for steel. Shows the idiocy of putting tariffs on intermediate goods that US manufacturers depend on. The CEO said US steel is much more expensive and his business that employs 500 people has seen its orders drop by 50% since they had to raise prices by 20%. China threw a 25% tariff on lobsters and now that business has shifted to Canadian producers instead. Trade wars are unpredictable and the Trump administration's arrogance is only surpassed by its incompetence. Just look at their planning that went into the family separation policy. They are clueless.

Last American car I owned was an 1998 BMW Z3, made by Americans in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was pretty nice. Got the German badge. Helped to employ and feed American people :-)
