VIDEO: What Happens When You Put The All-new Jaguar I-Pace Up Against The Tesla Model X 100D And P100D?
In recent weeks there's been a lot of news made about the all-new Jaguar I-Pace. A lot of the early reviews and first impressions are saying that the new, electric vehicle is one to take note of.

But, is it?

The folks at CarWow wanted to see just what the I-Pace was made of. So, it gathered together not one, but two, Tesla Model Xs for a little bit of performance fun.

If you're wondering what I mean by that, we're talking about a drag race, a rolling race from 50 mph and braking from 70 mph to zero.

While we know there's far more to evaluating an all-new product as opposed to these three metrics, you have to admit that it's pretty fun. That said, let's see what happens.

It’s our first all-electric drag race and we’ve crossed the Atlantic to make sure we’ve found the best possible competition for you! Representing the UK we have the Jaguar I-Pace the firm's first all-electric SUV offering, the I-Pace, whilst we have two competitors from America – the Tesla Model X 100D and the P100D.

Why both? Well, the 100D is close on price and power to the Jaguar I-Pace, but why not have the most powerful Model X there too for comparison? So that's what we did!

We’ve put these electric SUVs to the test across three challenges – a drag race, rolling race and brake test, but which do you think will come out on top? Let’s race!

Great job Jaguar! Seriously, they did an awesome job on the iPace.

I have to agree.

However, the interior is leaving a lot to be desired. I like Tesla's approach better...

Wow, surprised to hear you say that. The iPace is much closer to the cars people are used to.

The Jaguar is bey far better looking, but this is an apples to oranges comparison.

It is simply amazing to see the kind of power and torque the comes with an electric motor. I had a chat this week on the morning dog walk with owners of the new Nissan Leaf (redesign) and a new Model 3 Owner. Both are very happy with their respective cars and the answer to my question - "How does it feel to be living in the future?" They said it was great.

Until the battery dies and you have to wait 12 hours...

@MD I spoke with both at length. Battery recharge (240V) and range are non issues for these owners. Very happy campers. Add washer fluid and electricity and away you go. Tesla is renting 2 large spaces in the Toronto area and is ramping up deliveries of Model 3 sedans this month and going forward.

There still isn't an EV that can do my Thursday jaunt in one day.

You drive more than 335 miles every Thursday?

I built a mid-range I-Pace on the Jag configurator - are they really thinking people are going to drop $75-80K for one of these when they can get an ICE Jag for 50K?

Sure, Teslas are pricey, but that is the price of entry into the brand. I don't see this working well for companies like Jag and Porsche if their EV versions price out the same as top of the line 'regular' cars in their lineup.

Technically it is a whole size class lower than the Model X. It's real competitor is the Model Y if you only look at size.

The Chevy Volt has the best answer for most in that you can drive 50+ miles on battery only and then if needed the ICE kicks in to recharge the battery.
Most consumers do not drive more than 40 miles round trip at a time.
MDarringer is correct, the recharge time is more limiting than the range. And of course there is the expense. Once the incentives go away the price of entry is too steep.
