With A Twin-Turbocharged 5.2-Litre V12 At The Heart, What Is There NOT To Like About The 2018 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

Images of the new Aston Martin DBS Superleggera have leaked, revealing the British firm's new Vanqush S replacement for the first time. The pictures come by way of American site AutoGuide.

The images reveal a car appearing as a more agressive evolution of the DB11, boasting the same overall profile and distinctive shoulders over the rear axle, but tweaked with a larger front grille, wilder aerodynamic flicks and flanges, and new taillights too. The car's interior also strikes a resemblence to the DB11's cabin.

The gaping chasm grill idea is played out. The styling is derivative and in some ways an inappropriate copy. But..I have a friend who is involved with Astons in Seattle and I'm sure he will be able to find buyers.

simple answer... Re-sale... if you like losing 60% of your money the day you buy this car, then by all means buy one... there will be plenty built and many in dealer inventory soon enough... AM is on a mission to sell stock to the public so any little thing they do will be over produced and over priced... good luck. Don't say you were not warned.

The loss on an Aston is precipitous. I'd buy one but they have reliability issues and just aren't worth the money. A new Stingray is simply better than a used Aston.

Frankly - the Ford Duratec V6 based Aston V-12 is really not as good as many other V-12s out there - I would rather several others. And the Aston styling has pretty much stagnated as well.

Since the car is likely sold out already - it remains just another thing most of us here will never drive - and probably never see as well.

That is the story Aston wants you to believe, nothing they make is sold out, they have significant inventory on the ground in the US, Europe and the far east... nothing is sold out, they may tell you it is but ask your local dealer, he will tell you the truth. they are propped up by the dealers being forced to inventory 12 AM of various models at all times. Desperate dealers selling them for distressed prices... many unsold Aston Martin cars... don't be fooled by fake new presses designed to sway Wall Street for their IPO.

The big mouth front is a necessity to comply with the idiotic new pedestrian laws in Europe.
It was the only way to make it look decent, without having a wall of metal in front.
Blame the moron politicians (as usual the culprits of anything dumb).

-absent Where in the world did you ever get that idea? View a video about the development of the car. This is all about adding additional cooling for the engine (larger radiators) and enhanced cooling the front brakes. The grill size on this model has nothing to do with pedestrian impact regulations. The execution is questionable, but there was a need due to the increased capacity squeezed out of this V12. Expect an S version with over 750hp in a year or two.

WRONG!

The height of the nose is a design parameter, but not a large gaping hole. The Porsche 911 meets all applicable laws and does not have a gaping hole face. The Tesla S meets all applicable laws and does not have a gaping hole face. Both look decent.

@MD. Since you use Porsches in your example (and seem to know more than the engineer from Aston Martin who was in the video), The GT3RS has a huge gaping grill to help cool its engine. The Cayenne Turbo has the same gaping grill for the same purposes. More power, more heat = more cooling required. It is not pretty but I am sure it is effective. A regular 911 is not relevant in this case as it does not develop a lot of power.

@CanadianComments Why be a b-hole? If you want to be TheSteveJr then own it. If you want to be coherent and discuss cars then stop being such a tool.

You either purposefully ignored the context to be a b-hole or you failed to pay attention. Either way, look look foolish right about now.

The facts are as follows:

The context to the comments in this section refer to absent saying "The big mouth front is a necessity to comply with the idiotic new pedestrian laws in Europe." Which is patently incorrect, but his comment has NOTHING to do with cooling.

The video is narrated by a fanboy dandy lisping his drool over the Aston Superculero.

NOWHERE in the video does an engineer say that in order to meet pedestrian standards that cars are required to have a big gaping hole grille.

Let me remind you that the discussion once again WAS NOT about cooling.

It is the HEIGHT of the nose and general shape parameters, NOT the opening size of the grille, that is mandated by pedestrian standards.

The Porsche 911 has three grille openings. Two are vertical side vents and the third is a below-the-bumper vent. Presumably the Porsche passes the pedestrian standards without a giant gaping hole.

Once again, Teslas sold in Europe pass standards and do not use gaping holes to do it.

Yes,the Aston Martin Supercretino likely needs a big hole to duct enough air to cool the engine, but that has NOTHING to do with pedestrian laws which absent was talking about.

@MD Then we actually agree on this then. My point, while it was truthful, but unrelated to the comment at hand. And likely unnecessary. I'm still telling Mom you called me a B-hole. No desert for you. BTW there are more video's on the web about this car than this one. More facts and less fawning...

@CC the guy narrating the video was about to have a personal moment in his Andrew Christians without any assistive touch. I shared it with my brother Kyle and his husband who are car nuts and the scathing comments tonight over martinis about the guy were sinfully delicious. As for "mom"...I suspect you probably had the advantage of a nice mom i.e. one that wasn't drunk, high, or extracting money from men by providing horizontal companionship. LOL Your mom would probably have called Child Protective Services on my mom. LOL I also get the impression that you're significantly older than me. Maybe you should have adopted me. :)

@MD I am 50. Not 80 or as old or as accomplished as @TomM. But I did have a wonderful childhood and excellent parents who are in their 70's and are still happily married. They successfully raised 4 kids and all when to college/university and have a stable happy existence. They set a very high standard to meet or beat in any future marriage.

@CC You could have adopted me. I'm 20 years younger than you. DAD!!!

No one can be as "accomplished" as TomM is in his own mind because he invents it as he goes. "I drive a Chrysler minivan. I love the Chrysler minivan. The Chrysler minivan is amazing. I love my Chrysler Minivan. I drive a Cadillac CT6. I love the Cadillac CT6. The Cadillac CT6 is amazing. I love my Cadillac CT6. I drive a Rolls Royce Phantom. I love the Rolls Royce Phantom. The Rolls Royce Phantom is amazing. I love my Rolls Royce Phantom. I drive a Maybach. I love the Maybach. The Maybach is amazing. I love my Maybach."

Funny guys here.
At an event in London a couple months ago Reichman said to a group of future Valkyrie buyers that all new designs from Aston would be compromised
by EU Pedestrian laws that necessitate raising the hood line and expanding the frontal surface.
You make a choice, either a lot of ugly metal like on Tesla or a big grill like on DBS.
The way they executed that thing is a separate issue, some may like it and some may not.
....but then, you are the real "experts" here

-absent. You are not incorrect as to the changes being pushed onto automakers. The regulations are real and designs have adapted to them and will continue to do so. The adaption is baked into the DB11. Keep in mind this car will have a 7 year run before it is replaced. The new DBS has the similarly compliant hood design and front crush zone/crash components (behind the huge grill) as the DB11. I would tend to not read anything into its particular design re the new pedestrian standards, however. BTW They seem to have borrowed that grill's look from the Rapide and remade it for the DBS. I don't like it.

@absent it is NOT true that the only two options are "a lot of ugly metal like on Tesla or a big grill like on DBS". While the regulations have had a direct impact on the height and to some extent shape, that is not automatically going to cause ugly metal or a gaping hole. In fact it would be stunningly easy to avoid both outcomes.

Here is an almost supercar story. I have an Audi R8 V10 manual which I adore. THe rear Magno shocks are leaking at 11k miles. Both dealer and my aftermarket shop saying over 4k. Jeez! Having said that she is a hot mistress that revs to almost 9k singing a wonderful mechanical symphony. She is high maintenance but for the few seconds of bliss a wonderful drug. ;-)))))
