Dodge Teases RED797 Challenger - Is The World Ready For Another 800HP Pony Car?
With the Demon now out of production, muscle-car fans have been wondering what SRT might be cooking up next for the Dodge Challenger. And the answer, it seems, is the RED797. Just what is the RED797? We don't know yet, but we can take a guess or two. Though it's hard to make much out from the video, it looks to be sporting the twin hood scoops that Dodge teased (in blue) for the Challenger last month. And we like the sound of it – both from the exhaust note, and from the suggestion of what that number could stand for.

If people will pay the money - then they should take the money and supply the product.

Great hood design and I love that electric blue colour too. Build it.

I like the excitement for the SRT/Hellcat/Demon/Redeye (info on official site already) & the new engines and powertrain. However, I don't appreicate that everything else about the Charger/Challenger super-pony cars is basically, "blehhh". Stiff up-charge for basically only an engine, some suspension upgrades, handful of finish decals. The overall excitement is clearly for the driver only.

I still hope it happens. There is supposedly a 7.0L truck engine in development it could use as well. This time it should come with a dual clutch or 10-speed automatic transmission. I also hope for an AWD Challenger too.

It's probably an AWD Hellcat.

That would be a positive step forward for a 790+ HP car. Better in the winter too.

Or it could be a Hellcat with 90 more horsepower and some fancy plastic wheel arches.

@CC What's interesting is that the horsepower quoted there is less than it's quoted elsewhere. This will sell like mad.

@MD I suspect the transmission choices will divide the buyers. The Hellcat Redeye only comes with an automatic transmission. The regular Hellcat can be had with a stick or an automatic.

And in case anyone didn't know, the Challenger series of cars are all made in Canada in an FCA factory located in Brampton Ontario. Hmm, The Ford GT, Hellcat Redeye, maybe the new Viper and Corvette should be made in Canada too! :)

@MD Not really. Considering the 2022 Viper may come with a V8 that is supercharged and picked from the Challenger, my suggestion does have a strong basis of possibility. The Corvette a bit less so. But with a lower cost of living, a cheap dollar and close proximity to the US with a highly skilled workforce, both cars would have a much greater profit margin if made here than in the USA. An item of key importance for low volume production vehicles.

You mean the 2022 Viper that isn't happening after all?

@MD. You are correct. On June 4th Sergio said no new Viper. It is not in the plan. But if they are going to bother making an 8C with a carbon tub and bodywork with a Ferrari-ish engine, then the Viper could likely be built off this chassis too. The 8C will be a super low volume car. I have no idea if it would be a money maker. But sharing the platform with a higher volume but still a low-ish volume car like the Viper would help.

There will be no 8C. Elsewhere it's being reported that Hyundai-Kia is about to do something akin to a hostile takeover of FCA. It's not literally that but it's also not a "merger of equals" kind of BS. Hyundai doesn't put up with boondoggles.
