Who'd You Rather? Would You Rather Wait For The All-new Ford Bronco Or Take Home This ICON Bronco
In the world of autos, there's more than one manufacturer doing some amazing work with vintage vehicles. Right now I am willing to bet that 90 percent of enthusiasts immediately think of Singer when the words "retro mod" are ushered.

But, what about that other 10 percent?

I'll tell you what those other folks are thinking of. A small company called ICON that does some incredible work when it comes to vintage rides. While its style is far more interesting than Singer's I have to say that the founder's vision, Jonathan Ward, is second to none.

To see exactly what I am talking about, just scope out this video of ICON's latest project: The Old School BR, which is based on the vintage Bronco. Equipped with a lot of unique bits and baubles, the thing that really sets this Bronco apart is its Mustang GT-derived V8 as well as coilover suspension system and big brake kit.

Having said that, there is an all-new Bronco on the way. What would YOU do? Would you rather wait for the all-new Ford OR go with a custom ICON Old School BR?

According to reports the ICON version will take six months to build whereas the 2020 Bronco has yet to be seen, forget about open order banks.

Check out our newest member of the ICON Family, the Old School BR. Designed to be more under the radar than our established New School model. Same engineering, wrapped in a decidedly more vintage package!

THe original Ford Bronco was a CRUDE device - with a punishing ride - poor handling(It was Tippy) - and virtually no common creature comforts of today's vehicles. In addition - you will likely spend a good bit of money to find a reasonable - not rusty sample(Good luck on that). They may not even be suitable for rednecks. I admit that you might find one with a standard trans though - unlikely to find a new one that way.

This is a case where a newer version would be a CLEAR choice over the old one - IF you were looking for such a vehicle. Frankly - I would not be in the market for a two door vehicle unless it only had two seats.

I'll wait for the new one. As TomM says, old Broncos are pretty inhospitable. I love them, but they are not enjoyable. I would not spend Icon money on a Bronco because all you've done is pay too much for a vehicle that you will not enjoy driving. I suspect the new Bronco will be more capable in every way in spite of being better behaved.

I love the projects ICON works on and agree with Tom and MD. I would instead go for the ICON Land Cruiser. He has done these restorations many times. But only if money was no object. A modern SUV is a world away from something from the 1960's. The Bronco should be a success for Ford.

We've restored a few Broncos and they are a nightmare to do. Twice we've had people balk at the estimate because they think "It's just an old Ford; it shouldn't be that expensive." Rust is a major headache with a Bronco because of all the metal fabrication you'll have to do most likely. If trim pieces are missing, finding real ones is tough, so if reproductions are frowned upon by the customer, then up goes the price.

I shudder to think what the handling of the Icon is like given how high it is and when you factor in the power increase, it sounds borderline criminally dangerous.

I am sorry PugProud - but while there a quite a few Old cars worth restoring - there are far more that are NOT worth the effort. I could start with the Pinto - and th Yugo - both of which would cost more to restore than they cost new - and go from there. Certainly the Chevy Citation and the Vega- The Ford Granada - Dodge Dart - and I am just getting started. THere were some REAL clinkers out there at one time - and even if they weren't - they do not justify the cost of bringing them back.
