GM Plans To Be One Of The Last Standing In The Sedan Market
General Motors' car sales are falling faster than those of its domestic rivals, but the company insists it won't join Ford Motor Co. and FCA US in abandoning most sedans.

"We have to continue to listen to our customers and react to their needs," Alan Batey, GM's North America president, said in an interview.

"And right now, there's a lot of customers that want to buy cars, and they're big segments. That some of our competitors have decided to exit them, that just creates a bigger opportunity for us."

THere are still a LOT of "cars" sold in the USA - millions of them in fact
In times when oil prices spike - large vehicle sales tank - and small car sales increase. AND today - there will be Hybrids as well. Eventually the sales of SUVs will level off - and there will still be plenty of opportunities for sales of cars in the USA.

How can GMs car sales be falling faster than Ford or FCA - and especially Chrysler? GM still makes them - and the others almost stopped doing so.?

Sales of the Impala, Malibu, and Cruze are dismal.

FCA had the right idea but ZERO follow through. The Cherokee should have spawned a new Chrysler softroader. The Renegade should have been a Dodge crossover GTI. The Stelvio should be a new Journey and a new Grand Cherokee by now. Ram should have an Expedition and Jeep an Escalade by now. The irony is that all of those products would have been cheap to develop because they would have been reskinned versions of what was already developed.

Ford is taking the plunge and the Nautilus and Aviator are solid. The new Explorer is bound to be good. The Ecosport is a bit of poo but it will be short-term poo. The new Escape and the Mach I cannot get here fast enough. The Bronco has huge potential. Essentially, Ford's push is what FCA should have done rather than just killing the Dart and 200.

GM still has two brands too may with Buick and GMC stepping on each other and Buick stepping on Chevrolet and Cadillac. Axe Buick for the USA and turn GMC into a Jeep-only brand.
