Tesla Is Producing 5k Model 3's/Week Now, BUT Can It Continue At This Rate? New Report Leaves Us Wondering...
An all-new report coming from Reuters definitely deserves your attention whether you're investing in Tesla, waiting on a Model 3 or are simply a fan of the American electric vehicle manufacturer. That's because it paints a rather stressful situation at TSLA.

That's because it sounds like Elon Musk's company is still in "production hell." Quite literally.

According to the report, some highlights include the following: Musk expressing frustration with his engineers as challenges crop up on the production line, all-new schedules for workers, halting production on the Model S and Model X lines, and all-new expectations placed upon the workers of the Fremont factory.

If the Reuters report is accurate, this is a bit jarring. Simply put, it sounds like the Fremont factory is a bit of a powder keg type of situation right now and all it needs is an ignition source to light this baby up. I mean, it is July 4th, right?

So, this leaves me wondering: Can Tesla keep up this pace of Model 3 production OR is this a potential disaster in the making?

What say you, Spies?

Chief Executive Elon Musk barked at engineers on the Fremont, California assembly line. Tesla Inc tapped workers from other departments to keep pumping out the Model 3 electric sedans, disrupting production of the Model S and X lines. And weekend shifts were mandatory.

Tesla pulled out all the stops in the final week of June to meet its goal of making 5,000 Model 3s in a week, according to employees who spoke to Reuters. The sedan is essential to put money-losing Tesla on a path to profitability and prove that the electric car company can master mass production.

Whether Tesla can do it week in and week out - and without relying on overtime and extra hands - is another question, and one that weighed on investors...

Throughput Tesla's history, they've made similar announcement, long after their initial, self-imposed date to meet the announced production numbers passed unsuccessfully. And historically, the "big number" was just for PR purposes, while it took Tesla quite some more time until they could produce product reliably and sustainable, as per the announced PR numbers.

Lets see if history repeats itself, or whether this is the first time it doesn't for Tesla.

Actually - Tesla confirmed that it did NOT produce 5K Model 3 cars in a regular work week - something still to be done. Producing 5K using overtime and required weekend work is NOT sustainable - not is it particularly profitable as well.

THe real test of Tesla is not how many cars it produces - it will be WHEN it actually produces BASE MODEL 3 cars. The longer they hold off on them - the more likely a lot of people will not wait - and asking for an extra $2500 without any production promise - is something I would not fall for - even real Tesla fans would see that as a $2500 open ended loan without interest to the company.

Correct it is NOT a regular work week.

The report goes into how they pulled off 5,000 Model 3 vehicles in a week to meet its deadline.

I actually predict that the actual demand for the Model 3 will wane because the quality control issues have tarnished it and too because people were ready to buy the $35K car and discovered they were a part of a bait-and-switch routine.

So far I have seen only one image of horrific build quality being shipped.

According to latest reports the cars are getting better but who knows how the current crop are given they're being built under duress...

The Model 3 is everywhere, the cat is out of the bag, there is no going back. The mistake Tesla made was not planning to produce cars at the Nevada Gigafactory. Now they can't make them fast enough and are stepping over their own toes. Don't underestimate Tesla's ability to learn from the mistakes they are not afraid to make, adapt, and improve. That is happening at a head-spinning pace.

Exactly, I think the ability to rapidly adapt is their greatest strength at this point.

Tesla has lost its 'cool' factor. Large assortment of really sharp new EV's now being released by all the European luxury car makers.
